In this film It not only requires you to know Mandarin, but also requires you to have a certain understanding of the southern dialect and northern dialect, so that you can fully feel the humor set in it. And you have to be someone who has experienced social changes in the 1990s, otherwise there are a lot of interesting things that you can't understand. You have to see the world at least from an Asian POV, or you won't be able to understand the irony.
