Mythic Quest: Quarantine (2020)
Season 1, Episode 10
10/10
the only quarantine episode i've ever loved
9 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have always vehemently hated episodes of tv that addressed or involved covid, i couldn't stand it in superstore and i didn't love it in b99 (at least it was over quickly) but this episode just changed my life. It is is genuinely one of the best episodes of the show i've seen so far. And it was heartbreaking and accurate and real and HOPEFUL.

Poppy's reveal on the facetime with ian gave me chills, i didn't realize it was going to get so deep because most quarantine episodes aren't and THAT is what i hate about them. Because we can all make our jokes and mq did that, but it touched on the very real and present side of quarantine that was the infinite loneliness and near-instant depression. We saw poppy's downfall throughout the episode and it was terrifying.

Obviously, poppy's scene was heartwrenching-but then ian showed up and mq allowed poppy to cry. For nearly two minutes. There were not camera cuts, ian didn't need to say anything inspiring, it was natural and honest. THAT is good storytelling.

Then, we end the episode on a minutes-long scene of the mq employees making light for themselves in a time that was, for many people, the darkest they'd ever experienced. They made themselves happy and maybe even crawled themselves out of the worst, most confined pit with the simplest, silliest fun. Just so they all could smile and say they did something awesome with their friends.

This episode is IMPORTANT. I don't know how to say it any other way.
