This is not a "mature anime drama" any more legitimate than the original TV series. The misogyny in this version has been amped up to a ridiculous degree. As rich as the imagery is, the story has also been mangled to make it fit in the shorter time and it doesn't hold a candle to the original series. Awful dialogue and a serious lack of plot development.
The original series is a heartwarming guilty pleasure. The blatant chauvinism in this version is unacceptable. I felt accosted by this terrible rendition. The writers completely missed the point of the original. Watch the TV series. It's a much better investment.
