If you need a quick laugh and emotional boost, this is one of the best shows to watch. The cast are masters at it.
The negative is that it is too formulaic making it hard to watch more than a few episodes at a time before it loses its charm. There is a limited amount of scenes/prompts and the cast always play the same roles, and it's mostly the same cast. It's been the same for 30 years now so not too hopeful they'll mix things up at this point. Biggest changes in the past decade are a couple more cast members in the role that changes and having celebrities on to participate briefly but at the expense of inviting audience members on stage for the role, which was often funny due to their nervousness.
I also think it'd be better if each episode's cast mix was 2 roles for the current main cast (rotating between WB, RS, CM), 1 role for the cast that currently rotates (GP, NF, JD, KMK, BS, CE, HC, GW), and the 4th seat goes to a more amateur improv person, like top people from UCB, Second City, Groundlings. Or keep the current main 3 every episode but add 1 extra seat for the last type.
There was another improv show on one of the major network channels (US) in the 2000s that was different but unfortunately did not last long, maybe another will pop up somewhere like a streaming TV service.
