Royal Rumble 2013 Thoughts

Royal Rumble 2013 was the 26th annual Royal Rumble PPV event produced by the WWE. It took place on January 27, 2013, at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona with an attendance at 15,103 and a buy rate of 512,000 which was the highest among the Royal Rumble in 4 years. This is mostly because of the advertising of the Rock.

4 matches were set on the main card with the main event actually not being the traditional royal rumble match but instead CM Punk defending the WWE Championship against The Rock. The feud was teased 5 months prior to this after the angle of Punk turning his back against the fans for attacking The Rock on a special addition of Monday Night Raw. The Royal Rumble also was once more included with the same rules as the previous ones with this being the last rumble to have the winner get the option of facing the world champ of their choice (until 2017).

The Good - The main event went as expected. Having the Rock back in action for the WWE Championship was exciting and peaked interest from everyone. Punk did good as his heel cocky role of despising the love and praise Rock would get despite him feeling like the harder worker. The match was awesome and Rock's victory was a great highlight of the beginning of the year. A big downside though was the aftermath weeks later of The Rock not being on TV as world champ but that's another thing. The Last Man Standing was really good and the Rumble match too was fun.

The Meh - Rumble match was fun but obvious winner of John Cena might have carried a lot with low expectations heading into the match. It's unfortunate the match was also overshadowed of not being the main event. I think that hurt the celebration. The tag team championship match was also fine but was mostly just like any other tag team match.

The Bad - Nothing really to criticize or hate on too much.

Overall - I think they did a good job producing the show overall and it wasn't disappointing at all. It wasn't one of the best PPVs ever and the royal rumble being the most important match not being so memorable kind of drags but still a good show.
