6/10
Amazing CGI & Fight Scenes Let Down By Typical Lacklustre Asian Sci-Fi Storytelling
8 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The best thing about this film is the CGI, usually one of the weaknesses of Asian Sci-fi. No joke - the CGI in this film holds up against the BEST that Hollywood has to offer.

And the fight scenes - wow. You feel every impact and shot - kudos to the fight and camera choreographers. Furthermore, the climax arguably does the "lone individual vs spider tank" BETTER than the Hollywood Ghost in the Shell movie!

So why 6/10? I don't know what scrapheap they hire their writers from, but Asian sci-films always fall into 1 of 2 extremes: it's either overly complex and makes no sense, or it's ridiculously cheesy and predictable. Warriors of Future falls into the latter.

The whole "robots turn bad" plot has been done SO many times already, it would actually have been much more fun and interesting if the robots had been good - then you would have had a cool conflict that had never been seen before - robots vs plants/bugs. And also, the main villain hiding in plain sight, SO predictable it's almost cliche!

This film could have been amazing, but they blew their all their big bucks on the incredible CGI, fight choreography and cinematography. And had pennies left to spend on the writing :(
