Until the End of the World
7 June 2023
I watched and still watching the 4 hours and 48 minutes version. Two hours to go at the moment of writing this review.

It's a long journey, isn't it? It should feel epic because of the runtime but also because of the locations. But somehow it still feels intimate and small, like a novel that focuses on the characters and the feel of the thing, instead on the description of the locations, or that these have a purpose in the story. The only time it felt like the location mattered was in Australia, far away from modern civilization. The contrast also played a part.

I didn't like Dommartins acting. I wouldn't notice if someone is not at the same level as the actors around them but at least if she were in the same ballpark. She really stands out. If I am honest, the rest don't really stand out but most just play themselves.

The movie feels like it has some Lynchian influences. It feels weird and dreamlike ever since the car accident. But grounded at the same time. Like an uncanny version of our Earth but a couple of degrees removed. Like purgatory.
