After years as a teenager talking about the head exploding scene of the original; the most re-winded V C R scene of the 80's, I took my girlfriend to see Scanners II: The New Order! Well, cheesy, grade b, and a low budget Canadian film too boot. Reminds me of the T V movies one would see on the U S A network back in the 80's! The story is on par with the original. The characters are about on par with part 1. Sadly, the special effects were better in the original. Everyone goes to see the movie for the special effects and Scanners 2 effects are not bad, but not as mind blowing as the original. After hours of radio commercials about the mind blowing effects for part 2 are some what lacking or my expectation were or are too high? Maybe, the shock of the original, made part 2 a hard act to follow. Also part 2 did not have Michael Ironside, who screens presents with the effects made for a powerful combination! Watch it once, but you will not watch it again. 6 stars.
