I don't remember much from the original except for the songs and main plot points, but I know for certain Eric didn't have as much of a character development he did in this movie. As much as this was Ariel's movie, it was also Eric's, which I appreciated.
The movie took the source material and added positive value with new plot lines and songs. And I honestly thought they improved on many aspects that the original lacked like Ariel being able to write (fixed by getting her to use her scales) and Ariel's corrupt intentions once she got her legs (to kiss Eric, fixed by making her forget about the kiss).
All in all, amazing adaptation. Cinema hall was packed and people were laughing and crying throughout the movie.
Only qualms are Flounder's design and Triton. I'm pretty sure most of those giving negative reviews didn't even watch the movie. People need to stop preordering their prejudices...
