A lot of improvements there.

Season 4 has the chance of being good, great even after the « Winter break ». The storylines run smoothly, the heroines flaws are finally acceptable, and the irresistible mix of comedy and drama of early seasons, is back. As well as some characters that disappeared off the map. I hated Richard's mother with a passion, so sorry for not mourning her passing. But her funeral episode was one of the season's, series even, best. I also liked the one where both Rory and Lorelai got overwhelmed over failing, and the spring break special. Then there's Lane finally standing up to her mother, and it was glorious. When this storyline reached its peak during Luke's sister's wedding. Both this and the season finale were the best. First for the humor, when Mrs. Kim rather picture her daughter's male roommates as girls. Then the romance, when Luke and Lorelai dance to that Sam Phillips song I love so much. And the soap, when Rory has to make her final choice between Jess and Dean. Obviously, she picks the latter and offers him her little flower... Raincoats and Recipes has a sense of season 2 finale, only with better plots and dramatization too. Lorelai also has to make a choice between two contenders, and as writers destroyed her relationship with Jason, with the whole debacle with her father. It's easy to root for her picking Luke, who just got divorced from his former wife/fiancé/girlfriend... Nichole? As I was saying in my previous review for the season, Kirk's antics are now annoying me, and he's the only guest at the Dragonfly Inn's inaugural night, that didn't make me laugh. Lorelai's talk to Rory, after her slip up with Dean (because yeah, he's still married...) was a flawlessly written and acted scene. Let's see if I still hate her with Logan now...
