Cage excells in a slowburning, yet increasingly unnerving, violent and bleak kidnapping flick. Actor's gem!

That look in Nicholas Cages' eyes, resembles sheer lunacy, in this maddening story in which Cage (a total criminal freak) kidnaps an innocent father (of a pregnant wife in labor) and forces him to drive to another city. NO further explantion. What's going on here? THAT's the cliffhanger and quite a good one, I must say...

But let's start with what annoyed me a bit...

The bad: there are a few credibility issues, which nagged me a bit about how Cage gets away with a lot of violence in plain sight of other folks, without any immediate response by the police force. NOT credible...

More bad: it's cool to see a gangster character be really calm and collected, even in the most dangerous situations, but Cage took this bravado coolness a bit TOO far to be believable. Such a pity.

But these 2 complaints are only minor in nature... and didnt stop me from enjoying this wacko story.

The good: Cage (AGAIN) portrays a MANIACAL character brilliantly. I honestly would not know who else could be such a (violent) weird freak AND STILL be LIKEABLE (in a strange kind of way)

Cage really steals the show and he co produced this movie, so he had a say in this movies' end result, which shows!

More good: the first thing I noticed though, right at the very start, were the gorgeous photography and mesmirizing soundscore. These technical details might seem unimportant to some folks, but they matter to me! Real eye and ear candy!

What a great Nicholas Cage freak show! Highly recommended for the Cage fans! And also for anyone else, who can stumach a slowburning, maniacal, depressing and violent story such as this!
