Mayfair Witches (2023– )
7/10
Luscious and Lovely (the environs and backdrops)
2 August 2023
The first things that struck me as I began to watch this series was the way the colors popped. The light mint green of an old victorian mansion surrounded by deep brown of live oaks covered with tendrils of grey green Spanish moss, all boxed in by black wrought iron gates, standing in the sweltering heat and setting sunlight of the French Quarter, New Orleans Louisiana.

I could go on and on like that. You know how nowadays if you have any experience watching shows in the past few years and we all really do now ty COVID 2020. You can instantly tell the shows who have either endless supplies of talent and the shows that have endless supplies of money to make it look the way they want. Maybe some shows have both. That's how I felt about the first episode of this show. Within two minutes just the pop of the colors and the setting of the story drew me in. I said to myself "luscious and lovely" cause that's how It felt. Being an Anne Rice fan but never having read Lasher or The Mayfair Witches series I didnt know if I'd even like it as The Vampire Chronicles are my PB and Jam. I was surprised by the depth and width of the first episode. They had to cram a little yes I see that but otherwise it would have taken two or three episodes to get where they got by the end of the first. The characters seem well fleshed out and I like that. I didn't know the Mayfair Witches story at all but felt well in tune with the main characters and their flaws , motivations and misdeeds by the end of the first episode. I think this show is being a bit lowballed by reviewers. As it's production values are high and actors and actresses all seemingly hitting on all cylinders. Maybe the low scores are from hardcore fans who thinks it's not being done right to the story? I don't know I haven't looked yet. I think a solid 7.5 though is a much more accurate score. I'd give this two hours on a Sunday and if you like it binge the rest. If you don't like it go watch Interview with The Vampire series. It's got all the same luscious and lovely backdrops very high production values and the lots of money/talent by the pound. Combined with IMHO a much better stronger storyline and better characters overall make it the better of two. But still I'll watch the Mayfair Witches to see what happens.
