Camera angles, dialogue, characters - it all doesn't quite fit.
The main character is some wet fop who really can't act at all. Richard E Grant, again can't act and generally it comes across as a bit of an "am dram" or third rate show.
Some of the scenes in Ceylon are very nice and captured well. Some of the characters have been chosen well and act within accordance of their character, but if you don't get the main characters right from the offset then any production, no matter how small or big looses any authenticity, drama and appeal.
I'm sure the underlying plot is good, but it's these little distractions that caused me not to fully engage.
