A pessimistic History.....
5 November 2023
Bhagat Singh films are popular in India. But R. Santoshi's film is a classic. It depicts the character of Bhagat Singh, as a hardlined patriot, as a young Indian who dreamt of freedom, as the fearless revolutionary who was unafraid of voicing against injustices. It paints the character as what Bhagat Singh really stood for. It also has an intensely emotional appeal, implying how Bhagat's life has impacted his friends and families, how true nationalism influences the average psyche and so on. The BGM is highly praiseworthy in this respect. The songs too are all brilliantly chosen and arranged well within the film. Sarfarosh ki tamanna is still soulful...

Ajay Devgan is true to the role, no other could have done it better than him. He genuinely bought the famous revolutionary back to life with his emotions and expressions. Other casts too are satisfying esp Sukhdev's powerful performance who shares Bhagat's aspirations and nationalism with equal strength and intensity. The film portrays the biography of Bhagat Singh in brief and the significant aspects of his life. It also honestly portrayed why we Indians fail as an united community, our flaws, our natures in full exposure. Bhagat Singh really dreamt far too ahead of his time. The society perhaps was not ready for his ideas, the ideas of true socialist society, a place of equality amd freedom. The war was between socialist vs capitalist in true sense. But Indians voted for capitalists which failed to bring equality in Indian society. So it was Bhagat on one side as a minority vs majority on the other. His failure doesn't mark an end but set an example of the long conflict between true justice and false one.

Concluding this movie is a must watch for its patriotic tone and remembering the famous revolutionary. His last statement prior execution is still a insightful one about his own struggle and aspirations. He said ---- "Neither I fear execution, nor I believe in God". He was hanged along with his accomplices. The film is a true picturesque of a biography which lights up the significance of a patriotic character, embarking a journey of fearlessness, love of one's country and martyrdom. Though pessimistic in theme it's a must watch for all Indians, and also for knowing the freedom war of 1940s India.

A 10/10 and a 97 on a scale of 100.
