Its basically period drama for teens. Whoever says that this is not how things were properly done in 1870s, yeah it might be true but also I always think there were mischievous people who did act like this. And there is some truth to it since American girls did marry poor British royals for titles.
Acting isnt great, far from it, but its fun and whimsical and needed. Television or streaming services lack shows that are like this. Just lets you watch it for an hour and be done with it. Shows dont need to be smart and histocially correct to be fun and let your mind wonder.
