I really enjoyed this. There were several bold moves, not least the first black lead, who was extremely believable and carried the role well.
There were enough twists to keep us guessing and entertained.
It seemed to me to be close enough to the older television adaptations to be appropriately and respectfully adherent to the indiosyncrasies that will satisfy fans of the genre.
There was a slightly irreverent air to the production at times (other reviews have mentioned "pantomime") but this ensured a light-hearted theme.
Certainly worth a watch and we're looking forward to any more that follow on.
