The Simpsons has it's amazingly hilarious references to pop culture and politics, and the reference to LBJ and his treatment of dogs was absolutely hilarious without a doubt. Anyway, here Santa's Little Helper is lost and ends up in the evil clutches of Mr Burns, and the moment when Santa's Little Helper reunites with Bart was so moving and brings faith into the saying that a dog is man's best friend.
For me, in my humble opinion, it's the first 10 seasons of The Simpsons that's the golden era, although some episodes beyond that are worth watching for sure. Dog of Death is part of the golden era.
