I accidentally fell backwards into the classical Quatermass TV serials with this, the last of the original three, re-broadcast on the beeb some years ago. You can see the fingerprints of it over all the decades of sci-fi that came to follow and it's lofty reputation seems well-earned. Tremendously serious and fantastically lucid - Nigel Kneale's script perfectly balances everyday terrors with a building sense of overwhelming existential dread. It has a really solid sense of time and place, feeling very much contemporary and also sort of timeless. Unearthing this again genuinely does feel otherworldly.
