Dr Sam - Roy Schneider - is a Manhattan shrink who just learned one of his male patients, George Bynum, has been murdered. Someone stabbed him to death. Not long after, a wealthy lady Brooke - Meryl Streep - pays the Doc a visit. She says she was having an affair with the married Bynum, both working at an upscale art auction firm. Could he give a watch back to Mrs Bynum? Dr Sam is riveted by lovely Brooke. Meanwhile, Sam bounces ideas off his retired psychiatrist Mother - Jessica Tandy. Some suspect Brooke is the killer. Could she be? This is a so so thriller in Robert Benton's homage to Hitchcock. Streep is fine as the mystery woman and the rest of the cast compliments her. The best part of the film is the imagery which enhances the jolts and shivers. Most mystery lovers will find it acceptable fare for a dark and stormy night.
