Amazing example of early stop motion
22 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is a creative early example of stop motion, using dead bugs. The way the bugs move is well done and expressive, and the story is sold very well. The bugs move in a way that looks both anatomically correct and human. You can guess what the bugs think and feel despite the lack of facial expressions. The story is very entertaining, and you never feel bored during the 12 minutes of the film. The only part I don't like is the ending. Why are they thrown in a jail cell? It may be meant to be comedic, but it felt weirdly moralistic to me. I wish there were a high-quality restoration, which this film certainly deserves. This film puts a lot of attention to small details, but you can't see these details correctly in the currently available versions.
