In The Majestic, a blacklisted Hollywood writer gets into a car accident, loses his memory and settles down in a small town where he is mistaken for a long-lost son.
It's a comprehensive and well made film, with a strong cast and a solid Jim Carrey lead performance, but it's hardly plausible, pretty hokey and has quite the long run-time. Better early than late, despite the end having some grit. I'm aware it's the 50's, but the town's like so in sync it could be an alien takeover. Perhaps sobering for the Appleton character, but it doesn't resonate for the viewer. Matt Damon solely doing the soldier voice-over.
