A well put together, satisfying film

Warning: Spoilers
I actually saw this on release a decade ago. I loved it back then and watching it after 10 years, I still love it. It's just that Guardians of the Galaxy works on so many levels and really does not miss on anything. From a fast-paced thriller action to an at times a genuinely touching and emotional film

First off, wow what a dark way to start a film. I first thought that this would be better off being near or in the climax since the audience hasn't engaged at all but later, I learned that it was actually a pretty smart decision. Speaking of which this film was full of brilliancy, Guardians of the galaxy does NOT want you to predict the twists so the characterization happens later on and stays rather mysterious until the climax allowing the audience to be completely unaware of it's plot/twists whilst keeping the audience engaged with funny lines and with it's bucket full fun characters

I loved everyone in the film because they had so much to them and had all their distinct different personalities that makes them so likeable. Rocket had the exact same reactions to situations as I did which really kept my interest. Groot, of course how can you hate him? Drax was awful at first but he did get a satisfying redemption and Quill was interesting to say the least. The only of the main characters I didn't like were Gamora, Yondu and the villain because in my opinion, they're characters didn't have much depth and rushed but for the blast of a fun cast this film has, it's forgivable

We cannot talk about a MCU film without at least mentioning the stellar fight choreography. The prison escape scene, escaping Ronan, the final battle were all very entertaining as the twists were revealed one by one here and lead to an absolutely fun time.

However the thing I loved the most about Guardians of the Galaxy was suprisingly heart-felt scenes. It's tragic opening, the best tree in the world's death, and especially when Quill read his mom's goodbye message. This was a well-built up moment and timed everything perfectly. Quill's mom dying at a random time easily would have ruined the film so they put it in the opening and throughout the film we see how lonely Quill is, we feel for him, we know he's having a tough time because he instantly became close with Gamora. We had the entire film to feel for him giving us some time to understand and when he read that message, that was some pretty powerful stuff.

This ultimately leaves for a very satisfying ending. All our main cast full of loners finally finding a proper place to call home. Though, this film does have just 1 big drawback preventing it from becoming a 10/10 for me

This film absolutely lacked an interesting, or threatening antagonist. In the first act, the film makes you think Thanos is the big threat but no, it was Ronan. Perhaps the film wanted to surprise you but it was just too late for that. Despite the amount of power he holds, he did nothing to showcase his power or evilness leading to a very bland antagonist that did not make me the slightest feel of intimidation so his defeat wasn't the most amazing thing in the world.

But for the amazing qualities it offers, it is absolutely worth your time and you'll definitely enjoy it to the same extend as I did

Rating: 9.2/10.
