Little Miss Smiles (1922) - Lost Silent Film
PamelaShort28 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
While living in a New York tenement, the Aaronson family suffer many hardships according to their position in life, but their worst sorrow occurs when Mama Aaronson ( Martha Franklin ) is diagnosed as going blind. Young Davie ( Arthur Rankin ) longs to become a prizefighter, but his parents vigorously object to his ambition. On the other hand, their merry young daughter Esther ( Shirley Mason ) is beloved by a popular young doctor, Jack Washton ( Gaston Glass ). Meanwhile, Davie falls into bad company and shoots a gangster who insults his sister; he is eventually cleared of the crime, and a happy ending prevails for Esther, who marries Dr. Jack.

Starring Shirley Mason, Little Miss Smiles was directed by John Ford (as Jack Ford), for the Fox Film Corporation. Sadly it remains a lost silent film.
