The Alicia Keys musical Hell’s Kitchen and new play Stereophonic, about a fictional band in the 1970s, led the Tony nominations with 13 nominations each.
The Outsiders, a musical based on the 1967 S.E. Hinton book, followed with 12 nominations and the revival of Cabaret, starring Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin, followed with nine nods.
With its 13 noms, Stereophonic set a record for the most Tony nominations for a play, surpassing previous record holder Slave Play’s 12 noms in 2020.
Stereophonic‘s surprisingly strong performance even included a best score nomination despite it being a play.

A decade ago, Gerard Depardieu played a character inspired by Dominique Strauss-Kahn — the disgraced former head of the International Monetary Fund who was accused of assaulting a hotel maid — in Abel Ferrara’s “Welcome to New York.” In an ironic twist, the iconic French actor has now become the poster boy for the country’s #MeToo movement, having been charged with rape and faced with over a dozen sexual assault allegations.
But the French remain divided over him due to his profile as a mascot of the country’s cinematic history. He’s starred in over 150 films, including classics such as Jean-Paul Rappeneau’s “Cyrano de Bergerac,” François Truffaut’s “Le Dernier Metro” and Bertrand Blier’s “Going Places.” However, the tide is starting to shift — while French President Emmanuel Macron refused to revoke his Legion of Honor, the Paris wax museum went ahead and removed his statue on Dec.

Broadway box office held steady last week with total grosses for 28 shows tallying up to $28,106,860, with 224,832 ticket buyers paying an average $125.01 per seat.

Taylor Swift has broken yet another record with Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).
The superstar is the first living artist in nearly 60 years to have at least four albums at the same time in the top 10 on Billboard’s 200 chart. Midnights, Lover and Folklore join Swift’s newest album on the chart, where it sits at No. 1.
The only other living artist to do so was Herb Alpert in 1966 with his albums Going Places, Whipped Cream & Other Delights, South of the Border and The Lonely Bull, according to Billboard. Following Prince’s death in 2016, the star had five albums in the top 10 — The Very Best of Prince, Purple Rain, The Hits/The B-Sides, Ultimate and 1999.
Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) marked Swift’s 12th No. 1 album on Billboard’s chart and her third rerecorded and rereleased album, which includes hits like “Mine,” “Dear John,” “Back to December” and “Ours.”

With the HBO media empire tragicomedy "Succession," the damaged and destructive adult children of billionaire mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox) take center stage. For every shareholder meeting or tense bit of boardroom drama, the show spends much more time digging into the cyclical journeys of self-discovery or delusion that the children undergo. And none of them, not even megalomaniacal "#1 Boy" Kendall (Jeremy Strong), are as delusional as eldest son Connor (Alan Ruck).
If Alan Ruck's performance as Connor reflects anything, it's that against all odds he will find a way to dominate a given episode or storyline. For a character with a small role at the series' outset, he's become something of a fan favorite, whether it's rightfully fighting for his share of the pie as "the eldest son" or his Leonard Cohen karaoke choice. His romantic relationship and eventual marriage with former escort Willa (Justine Lupe) is as unsettling as it is surprisingly warm,...

The Big Lebowski may not have been a big success upon its release 25 years ago (seriously?!) but the movie has since become a huge cult favourite for millions of fans. There has also been talk of a Big Lebowski sequel every so often, and although the likelihood of it happening is slim, Jeff Bridges is keen to return.
Jeff Bridges told People he’s open to a Big Lebowski sequel, but only if Joel and Ethan Coen are involved. “Oh God! Geordie Shore standout Nathan Henry finished runner-up on The Challenge: UK and seemed poised to make a deep run in World Championship as a Global Mvp. However, he was quickly medically disqualified. The reality TV star has since spoken about his early exit, admitting he was “absolutely gutted” to find out he couldn’t participate in the Paramount+ competition series.
Nathan Henry on early disqualification from ‘The Challenge: World Championship’
Geordie Shore 10 star Nathan Henry competed on The Challenge: UK, where he finished runner-up and returned for The Challenge: World Championship as a Global Mvp.
They faced off in a qualifier that determined how the newcomers would draft Challenge legends, with the last-place finishers headed straight into elimination. Presumably at the opening challenge, Nathan apparently sustained an injury, resulting in his medical disqualification from the series. Due to his exit, only a female elimination took place.

Instead of following up their Oscar-winning black comedy with another richly profound crime film, the Coens made a stoner comedy starring Jeff Bridges as an easygoing slacker perfectly content to spend his days sipping White Russians and bowling with his buddies. Decades later, The Dude has become a cultural icon and "The Big Lebowski" is considered a bonafide comedy classic. When it was first released, however, it received a lukewarm reception in the States, save for a few diehard fans that understood its low-key greatness.
No one was clamoring for a sequel, except John Turturro who pleaded with the Coen Brothers to sign off on a spin-off centering around his character Jesus Quintana — the perverted rival bowler...

While technically, she’s been around without a break in her career, her parts over the last decade and more have been mostly voice work and guest appearances on television shows and in lower budget movies. Her work is always stellar and her presence online during the pandemic was a breath of fresh air. Her Aloha Friday live posts were something that kept many in a positive mood. Anyone who has met her will most likely say the same thing, she’s a joy to meet and absolutely fantastic.

The Challenge: USA brought out another classic elimination for the penultimate episode of the season: Balls In. And by the end of it, both players — Big Brother‘s David Alexander and Enzo Palumbo were exhausted. Yes, the friends faced off, despite Alexander, who lost the daily, trying to appeal to the daily’s winners Big Brother‘s Angela Rummans and Survivor‘s Ben Driebergen to send in Survivor‘s Tyson Apostol or Domenick Abbate. And in the end, it was Alexander who was eliminated. Alexander opens up about that elimination, why he wants to do another season, and more. There seemed to be a real division in the house, with you and Enzo separate from the others. How were you feeling about your standing? David Alexander: I didn’t feel that huge alliance. I know that Alyssa wasn’t as strong with me because I sent Derek home. She was really,...

Amy Poehler and Peacock are cleaning house. The NBCU streamer has ordered a non-scripted series based on Margareta Magnusson’s book The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning.
Parks and Recreation star Poehler will produce via her Paper Kite Productions, alongside Queer Eye producer Scout Productions, and will narrate the series.
The hour-long transformation series features people who are at a major crossroads and need to get their houses and lives in order. A Swedish “Death Cleaner” will help organize and demystify homes, lives, and relationships, allowing us to prepare for death while we enjoy life
The Swedish Death Cleaner will turn each home upside down as they uncover and undo decades of collecting. With their distinctly Swedish sensibility, they liberate each person from the clutter in their lives, and allow them to pass on treasured mementos — and the deeply personal stories behind them — to their family, friends, or neighbors.

Exclusive: Greg Silverman and Jon Berg of Stampede Ventures have snapped up rights to screenwriter Umair Aleem’s new action-adventure spec script The Paladin, which is being eyed as a franchise-starter, unfolding into a much larger, expansive universe.
Billed as Doctor Strange meets Unforgiven, The Paladin centers on a broken-down, last-of-his-kind warrior mage who undertakes a final quest to protect a child who has the power to save or destroy our world.
Silverman and Berg will produce the feature with a plan to go into production next year. The packaging of a star and filmmaker are underway.
The Paladin comes on the heels of Aleem’s hard-action feature Kate, a 2017 Black List script, which premiered on Netflix in September starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Woody Harrelson and Mike Martineau. Kate was the most watched film on any streaming service for 12 straight days. Aleem also adapted Danger Girl and wrote the sequel to Mile 22 for STX.

In an effort to buff its unscripted catalog, Peacock has ordered four spinoff series, including “Top Chef Family Style” and “Below Deck Down Under.”
The streamer also nabbed the kids version of “American Ninja Warrior” and a baking-themed spinoff of the DIY series “Making It.”
Hosted by Meghan Trainor, “Top Chef Family Style” will feature young chefs teaming up with an adult family member to compete and prove their culinary skills. Head judge Marcus Samuelsson will serve at the Judges’ Table with Trainor and a series of notable guest judges.
The Australia-set “Below Deck Down Under” will showcase the upstairs/downstairs of a super-yacht. The series follows the yacht crew as they cater to the needs of their deep-pocketed guests above deck while navigating the relationships and politics below.
“American Ninja Warrior Junior” will return for a third season, with Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila hosting alongside sideline reporter Victoria Arlen.

Peacock is preparing a slew of spinoffs of hit non-scripted NBCU series.
The streamer has ordered spinoffs of Top Chef and Below Deck as well as Baking It, from Amy Poehler and the team behind Making It, and is becoming the home of American Ninja Warrior Junior, which was previously at Universal Kids.
This comes after Jenny Groom, EVP, Unscripted at NBCUniversal, told Deadline that it was looking to order a number of spinoffs of NBC unscripted series for Peacock in our recent State of the Non-Scripted Business feature.
As revealed by Deadline last month, Below Deck Down Under is one of these spinoffs. The series, a spinoff of the hit Bravo reality series, will showcase the upstairs/downstairs of a real working super-yacht in Australia.
The series is produced by 51 Minds with Nadine Rajabi, Mark Cronin, Courtland Cox, Cristina Lopez, Tania Hamidi, Christian Sarabia and Zachary Klein as exec producers.

Peacock has set spinoff series for some of parent company NBCUniversal’s most beloved unscripted franchises, including Bravo’s “Top Chef” and “Below Deck” and NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” and “Making It,” the streaming service said Thursday.
The ordered offshoots include “Top Chef Family Style,” “American Ninja Warrior Junior,” “Below Deck Down Under” and “Baking It,” all of which will stream exclusively on Peacock.
“Top Chef Family Style” is described as a new family culinary competition featuring exceptionally talented young chefs who will each team up with an adult family member partner to compete for a chance to be crowned champions.
The series will be hosted by singer Meghan Trainor, with chef Marcus Samuelsson serving as head judge.
Per Peacock, “In ‘Top Chef Family Style,’ the most talented young chefs from across the country will sharpen their knives and battle it out to prove that their culinary skills are aged to perfection.

Summer schedules are just heating up, so stay tuned for more
Spring only recently arrived, but broadcast TV networks are already looking to the summer, announcing which shows will premiere during what’s traditionally not a peak programming block for NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox and The CW.
While it’s not exactly beach-front primetime real estate, plenty of hit shows still air in the warmer months — especially unscripted ones. This summer will see the returns of hit series like NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” and ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise,” plus the premieres of new shows like “The Republic of Sarah” on The CW and “Crime Scene Kitchen” on Fox.
See TheWrap’s roundup of broadcast TV’s summer premiere dates — so far — and check back regularly for updates as more are announced by Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC and The CW.

The unscripted TV business has never been as glamorous as the movie business or the premium scripted world, but the past 12 months of the pandemic have highlighted how important the sector is to the entertainment world.
Shows like The Voice, The Masked Singer and The Bachelor franchise have propped up the broadcast networks during a rotten year, and Disney and Fox have launched their own alternative units to double down in the genre.
There’s a growing hunt for talent, both working with A-list stars that have overall deals on the scripted side, and new voices that can help find the next Dancing With the Stars or American Idol, while all of the major suppliers are continuing to search for international formats that can become the next big hit.

Nick Offerman will star alongside Lily James, Sebastian Stan, and Seth Rogen in the Hulu limited series about the theft and release of Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee’s sex tape, Variety has learned.
The eight-episode series is currently titled “Pam and Tommy.” Stan will play Lee while James will play Anderson. Offerman will star as Uncle Miltie. Described as big and burly, this legendary prolific porn impresario brings his larger-than-life stature into the workplace to keep things lively and real. “The money guy,” Uncle Miltie helps disgruntled electrician Rand (Rogen) distribute the sex tape. A borderline sociopath, he treads along a line between humorous and horrific.
Offerman is perhaps best known for playing Ron Swanson in the NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation.” He and his “Parks and Rec” co-star Amy Poehler currently host the NBC competition series “Making It,” for which the pair has been nominated for the Emmy...

The non-scripted television business is made up of a wily group of people who deftly navigated their way through the Covid-19 pandemic to get a large volume of shows on air.
There is now new light at the end of the tunnel and shows that were shut down, forced to adapt or paused during the last twelve months are starting to find a sense of normality with the likes of American Idol bringing back audiences, Survivor finally getting back into production and American Ninja Warrior returning to its traditional summer time slot.
There is also a widespread sense of optimism that the next twelve months will be buoyant for the business – the “roaring ‘20s of non-scripted” as one buyer called it – with the pandemic having an encouraging impact on development that will see some wild and noisy ideas emerge.
Deadline has spoken to close to 50 senior buyers and sellers from across the broadcast,...
