Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s turn in Bullet Train has led to theories he’s going to play Bond next. But do actors who play Bond-like characters go on to actually play 007? We take a look.
At the time of writing, at least, there’s much speculation about Aaron Taylor-Johnson and his connection to the James Bond franchise. In March, a British newspaper with a big red masthead spread the rumour that the actor is secretly being lined up to play 007, taking over from Daniel Craig.
It’s a rumour so persistent that Taylor-Johnson has started to get a bit cross when ‘The Bond Question’ is brought up in interviews. When asked by an Associated Press reporter about the whole matter, Taylor-Johnson looked down at his feet, as though trying to repress some terrifying wellspring of anger, before abruptly marching off with a chirpy, “Alright, have a good one!”

Until the neither disappointing nor remarkable "Frasier" reboot, the beloved sitcom on which it was based had been off the air for almost 20 years. Running from 1993 to 2004, "Frasier" came to represent the gold standard for '90s sitcoms, alongside contemporary hits such as "Friends" and "Seinfeld." A big part of the show's success was that star Kelsey Grammer seemed to have been born to play the titular doctor, portraying his egoism and fastidiousness with the perfect balance of humor and earnestness. But the show was also propelled by a truly stellar supporting cast.
David Hyde Pierce might have thought the script for the "Frasier" pilot was "terrible" at first, but he very quickly realized how well-written the show was and throughout the show's run delivered a consistently brilliant performance as Frasier's equally stuffy brother, Niles. Alongside Peri Gilpin as Frasier's radio producer, Roz, John Mahoney as Frasier and Niles' father,...

There are loads of tantalizing Hollywood casting what-ifs. Tom Selleck would've played Indiana Jones had he not been previously committed to CBS' "Magnum P.I." Pierce Brosnan was set to succeed Roger Moore as James Bond after "A View to a Kill," but NBC, realizing the star of their just-canceled "Remington Steele," was a hot commodity, resurrected the show for a fifth season (after which it was canceled again). And there's always poor Dougray Scott, who had to give up the role of Wolverine in Bryan Singer's "X-Men" when "Mission: Impossible II" went over schedule.
These were franchise- and career-altering decisions. What would Harrison Ford have done after the conclusion of the "Star Wars" original trilogy in 1983? Would Brosnan have rejuvenated the flagging Bond series, thus averting the six-year retooling period between "License to Kill" and "GoldenEye?" Could Scott have connected with audiences as emphatically as Hugh Jackman did in the role of Logan?...

NBC could have had a big hit with the reboot it planned for Remington Steele. Quite a terrific genre-blending series, the romantic comedy-drama is often credited for launching Pierce Brosnan‘s career. The trendsetting show co-created by Robert Butler and Michael Gleason was first broadcast on NBC from October 1982 to February 1987; it aired for five seasons, with a total of 94 episodes. Though it drew mixed critical reviews while it ran, Remington Steele has aged well as it is now looked on as an innovative show that pioneered various elements that are habitual to contemporary television shows. Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd had unbeatable chemistry on Moonlighting. In fact, their chemistry could be so volatile the show ultimately could not continue, although the success of Die Hard and other movie offers probably would’ve been an irresistible force for Willis regardless. At least there were five seasons of Moonlighting, all available on DVD and creator Glenn Gordon Caron is working on getting them available on streaming services. Until then, here are 10 other shows to capture the chemistry and comic mystery if you like Moonlighting.

Pierce Brosnan got his big break on Remington Steele playing a pseudo James Bond like character. Stephanie Zimbalist played a private investigator who invented the fictional partner Remington Steele because clients wouldn’t take a female detective seriously.

James Bond has been portrayed by many actors over the years, and Harry Potter star Ralph Fiennes could’ve been one of them. But the actor ended up losing the role to Pierce Brosnan, who he felt might’ve been the better choice.

Brosnan had his turn playing the MI6 agent after Timothy Dalton left the project. Audiences would first see the actor in the role in the 1995 film Goldeneye. From there, Brosnan would go on to portray the character three more times. His last James Bond film was 2002’s Die Another Day.
Even though he already had a long career as the 007 agent, fans might have been able to see Brosnan’s Bond earlier. He was originally tapped to play the character during his early days in the TV series Remington Steele.

Character actor and voice actor Earl Boen had a long list of credits, working on nearly 300 different projects over the course of a career that began in 1974. But for most movie fans, Boen will always be remembered for playing the role of Dr. Peter Silberman in The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, T2 3-D: Battle Across Time, and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Sadly, it has been confirmed by Deadline that Boen passed away in Hawaii yesterday, January 5th, at the age of 81. Gabrielle Beaumont, who may have directed more primetime hours of television than any other women in history, died peacefully on October 8th at her home in Spain, her brother Christopher Toyne confirmed to Deadline.
Beaumont was the first woman director on many ’80s and ’90s TV hits. Her resume includes stints on Hill Street Blues, The Waltons, Miami Vice, Cagney & Lacy, M*A*S*H, L.A. Law, Baywatch, Archie Bunker’s Place, Remington Steele, The Dukes of Hazard, Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman, Doogie Howser, M.D., Touched by an Angel and three different iterations of Star Trek.
Her big break came when she landed a meeting with Aaron Spelling, who was under pressure to hire women and other minorities behind the camera. According to Beaumont’s brother, actor-producer Christopher Toyne, Spelling didn’t bother to look at any of the footage she had brought along. He asked Beaumont, “Can you goddamn direct?...

‘James Bond’ star Pierce Brosnan has had a dream screen career as he effortlessly transitioned from the television success in the 1980s to film superstardom in the 1990s. The Irish actor has now revealed a bump in the road where, he believes, a casual comment may have cost him a huge and returning role, reports Deadline.
Brosnan was already the established star of TV detective show ‘Remington Steele’ — and appeared in films including ‘The Fourth Protocol’ and ‘Mrs Doubtfire’ — when he auditioned for the role of ‘Batman’ for the film to be directed by Tim Burton.
He revealed on ‘The Tonight Show’ that he thought a light quip might help him secure the role. But, it went completely south.
“I remember saying something stupid to Tim Burton,” he told Jimmy Fallon, quoted by Deadline. “I said, ‘You know I can’t understand [why] any man who would wear his underpants outside his trousers.

Pierce Brosnan seems to have had several notable false starts in his career. In what might be an infamous story, Brosnan was to play James Bond in the 1987 film "The Living Daylights" right after production was set to wrap on the fourth, and presumed final, season of his modestly successful TV series, "Remington Steele." The story goes that "Steele" was to be replaced by the Fred Dryer cop show "Hunter," freeing up Brosnan to step into the high-profile role of 007 and his co-star Stephanie Zimbalist to take the role of Anne Lewis in Paul Verhoeven's "RoboCop" (the part that would eventually taken by Nancy Allen). Ironically, Brosnan signing onto play James Bond saw a sudden new wave of interest in "Remington Steele," and NBC unexpectedly renewed the show for a fifth season. As Brosnan told the Irish Times:

Roger Moore turned 58 while he was shooting his seventh James Bond feature "A View to a Kill." He'd already huffed and puffed his way through action sequences in his previous 007 effort, "Octopussy," but he looked downright spent in this Summer of 1985 offering. It was time for Moore to hand over his Walther pistol, but replacing him would be no small feat. Having occupied the role for 12 years (three more than Sean Connery), Moore had come to exemplify the role for an entire generation, most of whom were born after Ian Fleming had published his final Bond novel. For this cohort, his suave, yet silly characterization was what Bond was supposed to be.
The transition to a new Bond was further complicated by the overall crappiness of "A View to a Kill." From the snowboarding set piece (scored to the chintziest version of "California Girls" ever recorded) to the limp airship...

Pierce Brosnan was James Bond before he was James Bond. As Remington Steele, the fictional creation of private investigator Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist) for five seasons during the 1980s on NBC, Brosnan nailed the part of a debonair rake who could handle himself in a scrape and look downright spiffy doing it. One look at the actor in a tuxedo was all you needed. He'd just entered his thirties, and was everything fifty-plus-year-old Roger Moore, who'd huffed-and-puffed his way through "A View to a Kill," was not. He was the 007 heir apparent.
It was time for a change, and after a successful screen test, the Bond producers offered Brosnan the part. The timing was perfect: "Remington Steele" had been canceled due to declining ratings, which seemingly thrust the Irish actor into free agency. NBC, however, kiboshed the deal by exercising a 60-day option in Brosnan's contract, forcing him into an...

During the first half of the 1980s, the announcement of every new James Bond film was met with speculation about whether then-current 007 Roger Moore would continue in the role. At that point, Moore did not have a long term contract but negotiated his deal on a film-by-film basis, which sometimes resulted in producer Albert Broccoli’s Eon Productions auditioning new actors for the part as a means of leveraging their position with Moore.
However, by the time of his seventh Bond effort, 1985’s A View to a Kill, it was clear that the 57-year-old Moore was simply aging out of the role. Moore stepped down, and auditions began in earnest for a new Bond to take over in what would become 1987’s The Living Daylights. One of the actors under serious consideration, and who was reportedly the frontrunner with some members of Eon, was New Zealand-based Sam Neill.

Michael Constantine, whose long career produced an Emmy award and many memorable turns as a character actor, died Aug. 31 at his home in Reading, Pa. He was 94 and died from natural causes, his agent, Julia Buchwald, confirmed.
Constantine was best known as the fruit and Windex-obsessed father Gus Portokalos in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, an indie film that rose out of nowhere to become a smash hit. It spawned a sequel and a third version was in the planning stages, this time set in Greece.,
The original film from 2002 scored more than $360 million worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing romantic comedies of all-time.
But Constantine had a long career before that breakout hit. He was the school principal on the popular TV series Room 222. The role of Seymour Kaufman was a key to the show, which ran on ABC-tv from 1969 to 1974. He won an Emmy for the role in 1970.

He’s nastier than I remembered. In fact, Peter Devereaux, who is Pierce Brosnan’s lead spy in the grisly B-actioner The November Man, is a downright scumbag. But this is by design in a film that’s clearly coasting off audiences’ familiarity with the actor as James Bond 007. And despite his penchant for a fashionable enough gray sport coat, Devereaux displays little elegance or wit while he’s on the job; he’s a bastard who’ll sneak into his former protege’s kitchen with a gun and then hold the young lad’s girlfriend hostage and at knifepoint.
“Scenario: Your target has just severed the femoral artery of a woman you have been intimate with. What do you do?” Brosnan’s not-so-super spy bellows right before slicing a young woman across the thigh. He all but sneers as he leaves the rookie to clean up his mess.

Before Daniel Craig picked up the Walther-ppk in 2006’s Casino Royale, Pierce Brosnan was the incumbent James Bond. Even though it’s now 18 years since he last played the part in 2002’s Die Another Day, the Irish actor remains closely connected to the super-spy in the eyes of fans. Many stars who are known for one role above others sometimes struggle with that, but it sounds like Brosnan is more than happy to be 007 forever.
While speaking with The Guardian to discuss his part in Netflix’s new comedy movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, Brosnan – who starred in four Bond films, beginning with 1995’s GoldenEye – called his association with the character “the gift that keeps giving” and believes it’s responsible for his “wonderful career.”

While it may now seem natural to see actor Daniel Craig play author Ian Fleming's 'James Bond' in the action feature "Casino Royale", it could have been an entirely different scenario, with actor Pierce Brosnan nearly returning to play the Brit secret agent again:
Although Brosnan, the former "Remington Steele" TV actor impressed in his debut 'Bond' outing "Goldeneye", there are mixed memories to Brosnan's overall stint as '007', with "Die Another Day", critically considered one of the worst 'Bond' movies in the franchise.
In fact, the critical reaction given to "Die Another Day" was so negative that it resulted in the franchise going back to the drawing board, with dog-faced Craig ("The Road To Perdition") cast as '007' to give the character a fresh start as a raw and grittier 'Bond'.
Now, with Craig as the current face of the franchise, 'James Bond' has reached even greater heights,...

Pierce Brosnan will celebrate his 66th birthday on May 16, 2019. The Irish actor initially came to the attention of American audiences for his television roles first in a popular miniseries called “The Manions of America” and then on the long running series “Remington Steele.” On that show Brosnan played a private detective with a comedic somewhat satirical spin on the legendary spy character James Bond.

Timothy Dalton was cast as the next James Bond in the 1980s when Brosnan was unable to accept the role due to his contract with “Remington Steele.” Dalton...

If you’re the kind of person who still pays close attention to what the traditional broadcast networks are doing, you may have noticed that this has been the most uninspiring season for the Big Four in a very long time. Even with the very recent success of This Is Us on NBC, it feels like the networks have completely given up on the idea of competing with cable and streaming when it comes to drama. They know audiences aren’t expecting complexity from them, so they’ve stopped trying to offer it.

Former USC and National Football League star Tim Rossovich, who built a post-athletic acting career in various roles, has died after a long illness, according to USC News. He was 72 and passed Thursday in Sacramento.
Rossovich was an All-American and co-captain of the USC national championship team in 1967, remembered for star O.J. Simpson at running back. He became one of five USC players drafted in the first round in 1968, going to the Philadelphia Eagles as the 14th pick of the first round.
The lean defensive end made the Pro Bowl in 1969 during a career that saw him play for the Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers, and Houston Oilers. He later played for the Philadelphia Bell in the short-lived World Football League.
After rooming with actor Tom Selleck in college and given his USC connections, it seemed inevitable that Rossovich would become an actor. He started as stunt double in the Burt Reynolds film Hooper,...

Scott Foley is not interested in joining the recent trend of revivals when it comes to Felicity. “Don’t reboot it,” as he plainly put. Brad Kern is exiting his role as executive producer/showrunner of NCIS: New Orleans. He will serve as consultant on the series going forward. NCIS: New Orleans executive producer Chris Silber has been named new showrunner.
The move comes months after word surfaced in December that Kern had been the subject of two Human Resources investigations by CBS TV Studios while working on the studio’s popular CBS crime procedural. Both reportedly were triggered by complaints from co-workers about a hostile work environment on the show.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: In honor of “The Florida Project,” which has just started its platform release across the country, what is the greatest child performance in a film?
Jordan Hoffman (@JHoffman), The Guardian, Vanity Fair
I can agonize over this question or I can go at this Malcolm Gladwell “Blink”-style. My answer is Tatum O’Neal in “Paper Moon.” She’s just so funny and tough, which of course makes the performance all the more heartbreaking. She won the freaking Oscar at age 10 for this and I’d really love to give a more deep cut response, but why screw around? Paper Moon is a perfect film and she is the lynchpin.

Pierce Brosnan is paying tribute to fellow James Bond star, Roger Moore.
Following the 89-year-old actor's death last week, Brosnan penned an emotional essay for Variety, published on Tuesday, in which he opens up about Moore's impact on his own life and career, calling the star his "first real hero."
"Only on reflection do I see how much of an influence Roger Moore had on me as a young Irish immigrant lad from the banks of the River Boyne," Brosnan wrote. "I guess the combination of Bond and The Saint ignited a flame for fame in my heart of innocent wonder. I wanted to be up there. Roger as the Saint made me believe in his world. Pierce Brosnan, who stars in AMC’s new Western series The Son, recently opened up about losing his wife and daughter to ovarian cancer. Look back on People’s 1992 cover story on the British actor, as he reflected on his wife’s memory four months after her death — and the profound impact she had on his life.
When His Agent Phoned Pierce Brosnan in early March to tell him that his latest film, The Lawnmower Man, was a box office hit—a Brosnan first—the 39-year-old Irish-born actor remembers how he “whooped and hollered” with his two boys, Christopher, 19, and Sean,...

Pierce Brosnan is opening up about learning how to be a dad without having had a father in his own life.
The former James Bond star recently sat down with Esquire for a photoshoot and a candid interview about his turbulent life, while promoting his new AMC Western drama series The Son.
In the series, set in Texas during the Mexican Revolution, Brosnan plays Eli McCullough, the head of a cattle baron dynasty who begins to shift his family's interests into the burgeoning oil business.
The series deals heavily with family legacies and the relationships between fathers and sons. Eli's character struggles with the impact of growing up with an absentee father -- an experience Brosnan can relate to.

Pierce Brosnan‘s personal tragedies have permanently influenced his outlook on life.
The actor, who grew up in Ireland, lost his first wife Cassandra to ovarian cancer in 1991. In 2013, 22 years later, the same disease took his daughter Charlotte. So when it comes to his outlook on life, the actor admits he’s not one to always look for the positive.
“I don’t look at the cup as half full, believe me,” Brosnan, 63, tells Esquire. “The dark, melancholy Irish black dog sits beside me from time to time.”

Another week, another radio show!
It was already included on 14 Shows You Should be Watching Now, but I drove home the point about watching The Americans today on Ktrs Radio with McGraw Milhaven.
If you aren't watching, you are missing some of the very best drama written for television. Period. End of story.
And it's only getting better. The performances are richer, the stories tighter.
How many shows can say that in their fifth seasons?
The Americans Season 5 is breathtaking without pulling stunts like some other dramas on television and is all the better for it.
And this isn't the Last season, either, so don't hesitate about jumping in because there is still another to go.
Many of you have also been wondering about Chicago Streets.
Ordered straight to series at NBC, Chicago Streets is the series that will be coming to us from the angle of those who aren't heroes.

The last time we saw Pierce Brosnan on a television series was on Remington Steele. This time around instead of playing a detective, he plays the patriarch of the McCullough clan, a Texas family rich in the oil and cattle business.
The series is based on Philipp Meyer's 2013 novel of the same name. If focuses on Eli's life as a young boy growing up in 1849 and as an adult in 1915. It wasn't an easy road for Eli and he'll do anything to protect what he worked so hard and suffered for, no matter the consequences.
Like any television family saga, this epic western is full of drama and intrigue and should definitely be on your must-watch list. Plus, did we mention it stars Pierce Brosnan?
Take a look at the who's who on the show below, and let us know if you'll be tuning in

It's been nearly 30 years since we saw Pierce Brosnan play the lead on a TV series, but he's back, and better than ever.
The 63-year-old actor recently sat down for an interview with Emmy, and Et has your exclusive first look at his feature from the magazine's March issue.
Watch: Pierce Brosnan and His 19-Year-Old Model Son Enjoy Guys' Night Out
In the piece, which hits newsstands March 21, Brosnan gets candid on returning to the small screen as Eli McCullough on AMC's new western drama series, The Son, a type of role he admired as a young boy growing up in Navan, County Meath, Ireland.
"Going to the pictures was a magical delight," he says of watching classic cowboy sagas at local theaters. "The whole mythology of the Western is very much part of my own psyche."
AMC
"It's a new age of TV," he adds. "Such rich characters, rich writing -- it's a very fertile time."

Erstwhile Remington Steele actor Pierce Brosnan will mark his return to television when AMC’s The Son premieres April 5 on the cable network, and air simultaneously on SundanceTV for its entire run. It’s Brosnan’s first major television gig since his starring role on the 1982 NBC spy adventure that made him a name and helped him land the role of James Bond. “I’ve been looking for something like this for the last 4 or 5 years,” said Brosnan, who stars as Eli, the patriarch…...
