WHO FINDS A FRIEND FINDS A TREASURE is an amusing and entertaining Hill and Spencer movie
ma-cortes7 January 2010
Alan (Terence Hill ) obtains a map about a Japanese hidden treasure in a far island. Being pursued by some gangsters he aboard on Charlies's (Bud Spencer) boat who justly sails around the world. Later on , they are shipwrecked and find the treasure island. There they discover which it is not as abandoned as they thought. Then they meet one Japanese soldier (John Fujioka) and a tribe with savage natives (the ordinary Italian secondary Salvatore Borghese, among others). After that, the pair become involved in several adventures, and rare situations full of risks , dangers and fun.

The big time duo from Spahetti Western wrapped in humor as ¨They call me Trinity ¨ and its following as ¨Trinity is still my name¨ and ¨Trouble makers¨ were run out and then they turned into the Police, action, and adventure genre . As they played the Miami series which are set in Florida, such as ¨Miami Supercops¨, ¨Crime Busters¨, and ¨Superfuzz¨ . At Europe these movies are shown on TV very frequently and are part of growing up on kids and teenagers. The stories are plenty of humor and based on diverse personality and physical differences among them . This one deals with the adventure genre and set on a small Pacific island where is stashed a treasure since the end of WWII. It packs silly comedy, tongue in cheek, slapdash, slapstick and the habitual struggles without blood , nor violence, full of abundant kicks, punches, leaps and bounds. Lousy and jolly musical score composed by means of synthesizer by the usual La Bionda. Furthermore it contains average and quite poor cinematography. The motion picture is professionally directed by Sergio Corbucci, an expert on Spaghetti Western, such as he proved in ¨Django¨,¨The Mercenarios¨,¨Compañeros¨,¨Minessota Clay¨,¨Ringo and the golden gun¨,¨Hellbenders¨, among others. The film is absolutely hilarious for Hill and Spencer enthusiasts and ranks among their most famous and most representative ones; , a must see for all their fans. Rating : Mediocre but entertaining.

Who Watches Bud & Terence Finds Loads Of Fun
Witchfinder-General-6662 October 2008
Man, I just love these Bud Spencer & Terence Hill flicks! I've been an enthusiastic Spencer/Hill fan since my childhood. I've seen every film the two made together multiple times, and their films still seem to get funnier and better with each viewing. Such as this "Chi trova un amico, trova un tresoro" ("Who Finds A Friend Finds A Treasure") of 1981. While this is not one of my favorite Spencer/Hill films, it is yet another hilarious flick with or favorite duo of manner-less proletarian drifters that entertains with a high dose of fistfights and the typical Spencer/Hill humor. Fleeing from his debtees, Alan (Terence Hill) hides in the boat owned by Charlie O'Brien (Bud Spencer), who is to be paid a big amount of money for a promotional cruise. The ruffian Charlie, of course, is furious when he discovers his blind passenger. Alan then manipulates Charlie's compass in order to travel to a remote island on which a treasure is supposed to be hidden... "Who Finds A Friend Finds A Treasure" is arguably one of the sillier films even for Spencer/ Hill standards, and they are not exactly avatars of subtlety. The film's silliness, however, is a delightful one, and for a Spencer/Hill fan, this is one of the funniest films to watch. Bud and Terrence entertain with their usual rowdy behavior, many fistfights and incomparably entertaining humor. As it is the case in most of their films, the clever Terence brings the short-tempered (and not so clever) Bud to outrage multiple times with his puns and tricks. "Who Finds A Friend Finds A Treasure" also introduces a bunch of eccentric and outrageously funny characters, such as the island tribe ruled by a chubby lady named 'Mama' who disciplines her son with heavy slaps on the head, or a Japanese soldier who hides out in a remote fort and doesn't realize that WW2 has been over for decades - a spoof on the real-life case of Hideo Onada, a Japanese soldier who was hiding out heavily armed on an island until 1974. This was directed by the great Sergio Corbucci, the director of Italian Western masterpieces such as "Django" (1966) and "The Great Silence" (1968). This film is not one of his masterpieces, of course, but it is a film that I personally enjoy more with each time I see it (and I've seen it at least 10 times). Overall, "Who Finds A Friend Finds A Treasure" is another highly entertaining and outrageously funny Spencer/Hill flick that no fan of the duo could possibly afford to miss!

Cheers you up
Shaolin_Apu26 May 2008
Out from the pile of countless Bud Spencer action movies this is one of the best ones, and it also features Bud's best counterpart Terence Hill. Directly from the theme tune onwards this movie guarantees that you won't be needing any brains to enjoy this one; I didn't even notice that there was any other piece of music playing on during the film. Some people may not like it when a movie is full of comic violence, and even more comic adversaries, but also there is delightfully lot of different sceneries to keep any monotonous feeling away. Funny representation of the Japanese soldier who thinks that the second world war still rages on is something this type of comedy may be best suited for and it therefore is really worth seeing.

Terence Hill and Bud Spencer HILLARIOUSNESS!
MarKus-3713 February 2001
This movie has Terence Hill who's uncle knows of an Island with buried treasure but Terence needs a boat to get to it. He lost all the money he needed for the trip to a local gang of toughs, so he keeps his money and runs away. With the gang after him, Terence hides on Bud Spencer's boat, which is getting alot of media coverage becuase Bud bet $20,000 that he can circumnavigate the globe. Bud gets suspicious when his beer and food start to dissapear, so he makes a clever trap that Terence falls into. They both fall off the boat in a fight and swim to a deserted island of "BONGO BONGO" inhabited by some funny natives, one who has a pair of glasses. The Trinity boys look for treasure, but gay slave trading pirates are in the way, a Japanese soldier who doesnt know World War 2 isnt over starts shooting at them......the movie gets funnier and funnier! The fights are great! Really suggested for T+B fans, this is one of thier best, belive me! Find a bootleg of "Who finds a Friend Finds a Treasure!" from someone, it's grand, some funny stuff going on here! The theme song "Movin Cruisn" will stick in your head for days! Thanks for reading! The Three Stooges meet Jackie Chan on Gilligan's Island
lrzeitlin17 September 2006
This is pure escapist slapstick comedy. Don't try to find any hidden meaning in the simple plot. There isn't any. Terence Hill, in hock to gangsters, is given a map which purports to show the location of a hidden treasure on the mysterious island of Bongo Bongo. He stows away on a small motorsailer captained by bearlike Bud Spencer which is leaving on a circumnavigation. Despite the fact that the boat is only 30 feet long, the two blundering mutually antagonistic Hill and Spencer manage to keep out of each others way until well into the voyage. The stowaway scenes are the comedic highlight of the movie. The rest is slapstick bluster. The point of departure is obviously Miami, Florida but Bongo Bongo is located in the South Seas. Hill manages to rig the compass so that the boat heads for the island instead of on its intended course. During a tussle both fall overboard and swim for the island, a tropic paradise inhabited by natives who behave like the cast from a 1920s Harlem musical. The island is guarded by a Japanese WW2 soldier unaware that the war is long over. He fires shots randomly in all directions narrowly missing both protagonists. Naturally the treasure is hidden in his fort. Hill and Spencer demolish the fort and most of the other structures on the island with the help of an abandoned WW2 Japanese tank. At this point the Japanese soldier reveals a remarkable talent for English music hall comedy and the three become allies. Periodically the island is visited by slave traders and the gangsters who, having found a duplicate map, are also looking for the treasure. Like Gilligan's Island, everyone except Hill and Spencer seem to come and go as they please. Each visit results in a slapstick melee in which Hill and Spencer are uniformly victorious, performing Jackie Chan feats of derring do. The escape from the island is anti-climatic except for the surprise ending which is as improbable as the rest of the story.

I must confess that I watched this movie because I own the original boat that was featured in the first half. It is a 1974 Willard Horizon motorsailer and looks just as it did in the film. The previous owner was a technical consultant on the seagoing sequences for the producer. I'm a fan of the boat, not necessarily the actors - but the film is a good family diversion on a rainy night. The kids will love it.

a nostalgic movie
advnarayan20 May 2008
WHO FINDS A FRIEND FINDS A TREASURE is my favourite Bud Spencer- Terence Hill flick. Recently I got hold of the DVD of the same- and it took me back 20 odd years. As a young kid (around 10 years or so) I remember my parents taking me to see this movie in the theatre. It was in the early Eighties when the only English movies appearing in theatres were these dubbed Italian movies, dubbed French movies (read as Crazy Boys- aka Les Charlots) and Indo- Chinese movies- dubbed Chinese kung-fu action flicks. Original Hollywood movies took a while to reach India (at least 10 years). And Bud & Terence provided huge guffaws. The movie is all about a treasure hunt in a supposedly desert island in the pacific. Terence hill is a stowaway in Bud's boat and he manipulates the ship's navigation controls to take them to this island. Then on it's a laugh riot with the duo endearing themselves to the natives of the island. The laughs may not be of that quality we associate with modern day movies- but as nostalgic remembrance of my childhood, I treasure this movie.

Two (un)likely friends
kosmasp7 September 2022
Bud Spencer and Terence Hill - those who grew up with them do not need me to introduce them - anyone else: I kind of doubt this is the first movie you'll come up when you look for them. That being said, the chemistry is there. The love/hate relationship that is. Bud always being annoyed by Terence - well their characters with each other that is. I don't think many will even know their character names - on the other hand, maybe I am not hardcore fan enough.

That all being said, certain aspects of the movies they did may not have aged as well for newer audiences. Do not go and cry woke and whatever else. I am not telling you what to feel or that this has to be cancelled (or any other movie for that matter). I am just saying that there may be more sensitive souls out there that need warning(s). Nothing wrong with that. One of the majoe concerns may be the depiction of natives on the island that is a major part of the movie.

Again, not saying this is bad or whatever. It was done under the guise of comedy. Some may feel that it does not suffice or warrant what is depicted here (cliche depictions - again for comedy value). Especially when they talk ... well funny (no pun intended).

That is one side. Another major part of the movie is a Japanese soldier, who never got the news that the war (second world war that is), has ended. Now I assume that the real life story was something this drew on. Because there actually is or rather was one soldier who thought that. I think there is a documentary about him? Not sure, but I read about him. So while this is fiction (like the treasure or the movie itself of course), it also is real ... like the treasure and the movie ... I'm kidding of course ... or am I? Well the movie will answer that.

There are scenes we come to expect from the duo ... fighting scenes that is. And the "appropriate" sound effects. You may wonder where all the guys who seem to be a glutton for punishment come from ... but why bother thinking too much? The movie is meant to entertain ... and entertain it does. Just suspend your disbelief and go with the flow ... and the boat ... pacing could have been a bit better, but maybe it is whatever you are used to too.

Who find a friend... finds a punch!!
f.gimenez14 December 2000
This is perhaps the Terence Hill/Bud Spencer movie that I´ve enjoyed the most. A solid plot, a superb reggae-style main title track and the two Italian friends in their very best shape ten years after their first world-wide success "My name is Trinity", make this movie most amusing and even unforgettable. Funny dialogues, funny gags, and of course, the essential punches and slaps. A movie to watch and to keep forever.

Happy but anemic Spencer & Hill romp.
gridoon23 November 2003
The less you expect from this film, the more you are likely to enjoy it. It's filmed on pleasant locations and has a nice carefree spirit, but as a comedy it is anemic and rather leisurely paced - only mildly amusing BEFORE the starring duo gets to the "desert" island, and even less amusing when they DO get there. There are no outstanding scenes, and the dubbing of Bud Spencer's character is problematic. (**)

The best of the best...
chocho-1023 August 2008
As a Bud Spencer/Terence Hill fan, I always loved to watch these two guys giving a punch for all the bad guys (whose were almost all the same in each movie :)), but this film was the best of their works. All the jokes, the funny characters and scenes (especially the closing sentence) are classic!

The acting is not so strong but in these films it's not really important at all. Spencer and Hill bring their own style, playing each other and tricking, gaging all the time. My only complain is the poor English dub. The Hungarian version is much more witty. Too bad for that.

But don't worry, it's not a big loss. If You like to laugh, but don't care about realism and just want to chill out with a can of beer, this is the movie you must see!

Funny action-movie with Spencer & Hill
CooperCom29 November 1999
It's gone some years since I saw this movie, but I remember it as one of the funniest Bud Spencer films. Spencer is on a desert (he thinks) island to search for a treasure, but soon he got some company from some bandits who (several times) ends up with broken bones and black eyes.

If you like Jackie Chaan-movies you probable like this one.

The treasure island story
jalilidalili1 February 2007
As usual for Hill and Spencer movies, they are two self centered and greedy characters, who basically care only for themselves, but still manage to do the right thing when the time comes.

Hill and Spencer could easily be the modern day equivalent of everymen. The only thing that has them motivated (in any of their movies) is greed for money, because they don't have it and are prepared to do many things to get it (although they would never really cross the border of the law).

In this case there's an old uncle with a treasure map and his nephew (Hill), who doesn't really believe him, but once he gambled away all of the mafia's money, the treasure seems to be the only way out for him. So he hides away on a sailboat as a last possible way to get away from the pursuers. The captain (Spencer) is only doing this trip with the sailboat to get the money from the sponsor Puffin (making a product he hates himself). And after they loose the boat (as usual Hill dragged Spencer in the middle of it all) they have nothing left but the treasure to search for.

As with other similar movies like "Go For It", "Crime Busters", "Double Trouble" or "Odds and Evens" Spencer is a grouchy leave-me-alone character and Hill the happy-go-lucky character. The first half an hour is a way to bring these two everymen in a situation where the slapstick comedy occurs. Although always shallow, the plot is plausible enough to let you settle in it and the opening part of the movie, when they are just getting to the point, is as always the funniest, for it doesn't rely on slaps and punches.

After the landing on the island with the treasure the slapstick comedy gets on the way. So expect punches, kicks, slaps and many hurt bad guys. And as usual there is the reward to be had, so they find the treasure - still they can't get rich off it. It's never that easy, so just like the real modern everyman they are left more or less empty handed in the end.

All in all a very amusing and simple movie, that would fall in the category of upbeat movies that will brighten your day, even though when you really think about it, you'll see it has a lot more to offer the it first seems.

Funny, hysterically funny movie
hfhfdfse2 April 2005
I did not think too highly about the 1970-80s European comedies shot in English (in a desperate attempt to attain a wider release). Lots of such films have been made and practically none of them appeared to be of any interest or significance. And my expectations were not high when I was about to sit down watch this one but I was wrong! Yes, and I am not ashamed of avowing it. Who Finds A Friend Finds A Treasure is a great comedy, a hysterically funny "treasure hunting" story. In short, two fellows go on a daring quest to discover a buried treasure hidden on a tiny island in the South Pacific by Japanese soldiers during WWII. On their way to the treasure they face (besides their personal disaccords) sharks, pirates, aborigines and last but not least a crazed Japanese still living in the debris of the Japanese military base in firm believe that the war still goes on. And be prepared for a great surprise at the end…. The dialogue is witty, the actors do very good work. These are namely brilliant comedians Terence Hill and Bad Spencer. Even their appearance can make you smile: naive, tall, slim, agile Hill ideally compensates level-headed, fat, moving with a slow motion Spencer. They make plenty of fighting all the way and all these fighting scenes shot in a cartoon style will make you roll on the floor laughing. Yes, very funny, family friendly film with no brief language, sexual references or crude humor. Recommended.

hot tropic island adventure
jank12319 July 2001
The movie is about two funny guys whose path crosses with an accident. They land on a small island and they start searching for a treasure which is probably hidden on that island. The movie is pretty funny and if you like bud&terence movies then you will watch this movie twice. The ending of the movie is sad and funny at the same time. And nothing is more important than a friendship. Eat puffin! It gives you power and holds you awake! you will get what i mean when you watch the movie. Ohh, the music is great "movin, cruisin" from La bionda. It has the taste of the early 80s. You can find it on napsters.

Terence Hill and Bud Spencer on a desert island
Leofwine_draca14 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
WHO FINDS A FRIEND FINDS A TREASURE is yet another vehicle for Terence Hill and Bud Spencer, playing a comic duo who find themselves stranded on a desert island which may just be the location for a hidden stash of gold. Before they can get their hands on the loot, they must contend with various allies and adversaries, from a loony tribe of native villagers to a Japanese soldier who doesn't realise the war has ended, to white slavers and a criminal gang.

I found this particular adventure to be slightly tired in feel with a plot that's just an excuse to string together the usual crazed action scenes. This one was filmed in Florida but the island setting is quite realistic. The comedy is broader than usual while the action is familiar, but fun. The producers went to the trouble of building their own tank for the story which is pretty impressive. The usual brawling action is a hoot as always and Hill and Spencer give it their all, but there's a dip in quality when compared to their old western and crime classics. John Fujioka steals the show as the crazed Japanese soldier.

Spencer and Hill on an island works as well
Horst_In_Translation28 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
"Chi trova un amico trova un tesoro" (that is easy to understand, even for non-Italians like me) or "Zwei Asse trumpfen auf" is a co-production between the United States and Italy from 1981, so this one will have its 40th anniversary really soon and unless you show up here witin the next days or weeks, it probably happened already. Anyway, it's not a problem. Like almost all other Spencer/Hill movies, this is a timeless film I think. But first things first: It is definitely among their better-rated films here on imdb with the 7 left of the comma. Also the amount of votes over 10k is pretty telling. It may not sound like a lot, but we have to keep in mind that Spencer and his films were never really known in America, but here in Germany they could not have been any more popular. I am not sure if this one did not win a Golden Screen or if it just missing here from imdb. In any case, really many Spencer (and Hill) films did and this is an award that is given only to films for which really many people went ot theaters to watch them. I think this also has to do with the German dub of these Italian-language films that is almost always top-notch and the German voice for Spencer is one I will always immediately recognize and I am sure that I am far from the only one there. At almost 110 minutes, this is also one of the longer Spencer/Hill films. The director is Sergio Corbucci and he is also one of the two writers here. While Corbucci is probably more known for some of the western films he made in the 1960s, this one here is also not his only film starring the famous duo Soencer and Hill. The co-writer is Mario Amendola. Must admit that I am not familiar with him at all despite his gigantic body of work. As for the cast, the film is set away from civilization, so this is a bit of an exotic cast. But only if we look at the characters. For example the Japanese man is played by an American and Mama is played by a Jamaican. And Anulu is played by an Italian. Unexpected. I have a feeling many people would say this portrayal is politically incorrect, but let them ramble. We who know this is not true enjoy these films for what they are. So nice that people did not wine about everything back then. In any case, said Italian is Sal Borgese and he is also still alive today and in his 80s just like Terence Hill. Hopefully, they will stay with us a bit longer. As for the rest, especially Spencer of course, may they rest in peace. I am really grateful for all the films the man he left us and knowing that he himself did not rate them highly in his senior years makes me a bit sad, bit it is okay. Still fun all along. By the way, Borgese showed up in other Spencer films too, so if you look closely enough, you may spot him on other occasions. Before I get really into detail about the plot here and the moments and scenes I liked the most, let me make another reference to the dubbed version. Not only is the voice for Spencer (and Hill) pretty perfect, but it's also about what the characters say. Many examples there, but let me state one quick line here especially that had me in stitches. I am talking about the one where Spencer's character is scared the Japanese man will shoot him and he says something like "der dödelt uns weg" (impossible to translate, like "he shoots us" with the funniest verb one could use). So yeah, it is also those small moments where this film is highly entertaining and you don't even expect that.

Okay, what else did I like? I think there is despite the gruffiness to Spencer's character always some nice heart in these films. We have no orphanage here, but instead we get a story about the village idiot being the son of the vilage leader and the Japanese fella apparently. And the parents are reunited in the end. Of course, it is not realistic looking at how the Japanese guy has behaved for years, maybe decades, but it is still nice. realism is nothing you should look for in these movies. This is already proven by the fact that there are so many people on this island and new ones show up constantly. In reality, it would be a harsh battle for survival perhaps, but here it is much more about Spencer's and Hill's characters' interaction with all the folk. And as you always get some fun fights and they cannot beat up the tribe living there and also not the Japanese fella, we have a gang of pirates, who honestly look really gay in their leather outfits and they are the mean ones who have oppressed the indigenes for a long time and now they get their fair share from our two heroes. But only with fists of course. In another context, we have a rifle cut into half by a really sharp blade. That is kinda symbolic how guns or at least bullets are never a crucial factor in Bud Spencer movies. It's all about fistpower. By the way, there is also a decent running gag with Borgese's Anulu being constantly hit and kicked, be it by Spencer early on. Or be it by the bad guys. or be it even by his own mother. Poor fella. But he is coping well and still a likable character after initially I thought he could be some main antagonist even in the long run. You see I don't remember much, even if I have seen this movie before. But the bad guys are almist always White men from civilization in Bud Spencer films and even on the most remote island, this does not change. Now that is really making a statement against racism. Much more crucial than 99% of the stuff done today. But I am drifting a bit away now. The scenes on the ship early on are fun as well when we have Hill's character hiding and eating Bud's food, but eventually he finds out what's going on and Hill's character is in for a punishment. Of course, the two bond quickly a little while later, even after Hill's character intentionally throws the binoculars into the water and is responsible for the two falling off the boat. Spencer's character really is a saint for making friends with him nonetheless. Or actually he is not a saint which makes him so relatable because in the end he goes really mad (understandably) when he finds out the treasure is indeed priceless and not worthless. Haha Bud's open mouth in this scene. He's the real treasure. Another fun twist, but expected somehow. Or maybe not. Maybe I just knew it would happen because I saw the film before. Alright, what else can I say? If you got until here, then you should really know by now that this is a movie I very much recommend and I never would (or will) give this one a thumbs-down. By the way, what happened to the bird from the ship. I hope hs is alright. He (or it) did not come with them to the island right? Oh yes, another really funny moment here (one of the best) was when the bad guys meet our heroes for the first time and they say something like they have not checked that one yet when they are about to raid another shack and boom the two entering there immediately fly out as a consequence of Spencer's and Hill's fists. Or immediately afterwards when the leader from the bad guys tries to step on Spencer's character's foot as he did on other occasions and nothing happens and Hill's character suggests he should try both feet at once, that was also very funny what happened next. Ah man I love those films. Maybe I will give out an even higher rating next time when I see it. For now 3 stars out of 5 seems enough because there are other films including the two (or only Spencer) that I liked maybe a little more even, but there is no way I will ever give a lower rating than the current one. At the end of my review, another final reference to the end of this movie: Of course, Hill's character will not let his new buddy (no pun intended) fly away without him and Spencer acting frightened is always fun, especially the noise from the German voice actor there when Hill's character talks about the beer. Oh and Spencer was a gifted pilote in real life. Not a coincidence that he is inside planes so many times in his films. And the scenes with the girls before that a bit unusual because normally it is always Hill's character who is doing fine with the girls (no surprise with his blue eyes), but here we find out it is also all staged, so that he could get on board. Of course. Enough now. I could talk about another dozen scenes, but instead you should really watch this movie. Or rewatch it. I kinda want to as well and I just did. Enough said about how much fun this is. Very much recommended.

Very funny,fantastic!
robertofuiano6 October 2008
beautiful film. As to the usual one, the usual negative comments which talk about a classical film some years 80 which everyone does not like it to the nostalgic ones are met.Sure Heros that this film had to have a judgment in this site. In fact reviewers' good part has put a high vote to the previous episodes. Because this contrast? I know the reason. Since assumptive reviewers' good part favorably sees the past and as the past is "better" than the present they have given several credit to the preceding episodes being still the last episode more explosive and spectacular. At this point should reject also the old episodes but there are here two weights and two measure. In fact also cinema masterpieces have been criticized and denigrated. Good part some reviewers of this site belong to the very bad reviewers. Better think separately with its head. arise the vote. (petrovaz@mail.ru) Shame

A Spencer and Hill classic
srobi2806 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I have loved this movie ever since I first saw it when I was a child. It is about Charlie (Spencer) and Alan (Hill) getting stranded on an island. Hill is being chased by mobsters and boards Spencer's boat. He goes unnoticed for a while, after which he is discovered by Spencer. Hill redirects the boat towards the island, which he thinks has a treasure buried on it. Spencer notices, a scuffle ensues, and they fall overboard. They have no choice but to swim for the island. Once there, they go through many amusing situations, such as meeting the natives, fighting off pirates, meeting a crazy samurai who doesn't know that WWII is over, all while searching for the treasure they aren't sure even exists. A true classic. I love this movie.

Who finds this film, finds a waste of time

Choco, my friend from Hungary, you convinced me to watch this film. I must say I cannot agree with your review. I was hoping for much better than this poorly written, acted, and directed time-waster.

Yes, there are a few good moments here and there, but for me, it was not worth the effort.

You indicate that it would be good to watch while drinking a beer. I disagree; I think this film needs a six-pack, maybe a case, before you even insert the DVD.

But I'm glad you enjoyed it, Choco, and maybe others will agree with you instead of me.

(Now tell me, my friend, when are you Hungarians going to produce some English subtitles for "Jurachick Park"?)

One of my personal favs of Bud and Terence
richardjp-172252 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of Spencer and Hill's movies that perhaps hasn't aged quite as well and is probably more appealing to kids. It also resorts to racist stereotypes with the islanders and the Japanese soldier, who still thinks World War II is going, but it's still a classic as far as I'm concerned. Great fight scenes and plenty of laughs, as well as comical villains who as usual never get the better of Bud and Terence.

Not the best way to start with Bud Spencer's movies
sprendlinger27 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone who hasn't yet seen a movie starring Bud Spencer should IMHO not begin with this one. I think it's one of his worst movies, but it's not primarily due to any inabilities in Spencer's acting. He gives us what we might expect, but the acting of all other characters is so weak that it's no fun, this time! Well, I didn't expect a witty movie with a reasonable plot and brilliant acting of EVERYONE... but, sorry, THIS one doesn't even give enough pleasure to fill a lazy hour on a Sunday afternoon!

Why? It is a good joke that the both main characters hunt each other 'round the boat and then fall into the ocean, only to see the boat sail away without them, and now they are stranded on a -seemingly- uninhabited island. And it's also okay to watch Spencer grudgingly agree that Hill stays with him. BUT once they come in contact with the natives, the whole thing becomes just annoying:

1) The natives behave like semi-idiots, with the female Chief's son as the biggest of them all. It's racist and arrogant to depict them that way.

2) Equally absurd is the way the Japanese soldier behaves. I can only review the German dubbed version, maybe the English version is better, BUT when the soldier jumps around and shouts and yells, it is SO obvious that he doesn't do that in Japanese... just senseless words, isn't that ridiculous?

3) When Spencer and Hill have made their way into the Fort, disarmed the soldier, and it has already turned out that the Chief's son is the son of the soldier, and the latter says "Sorry that I have to do hara-kiri" and walks off the scene - wouldn't you expect his son following him and trying to hinder him from that? Nothing of that sort happens, he (in that sense an idiot, indeed) just remains apathetic and does - nothing. VERY strange moment... not funny, just annoying and tragic.

4) And the WWII tank! Had Spencer and Hill really demolished half the village, I bet the natives would have turned in rage against them. That there doesn't happen anything of that sort, leaves me again with the thought, they were real fools altogether! Again, the natives are shown as irreasonable, cowardice savages.

If there had to be natives, it had been better to show them as people with courage, intelligence, maybe aggressive warriors with frightening paint on their bodies; defending their island with cleverness, most of the time hidden in the jungle. THAT would have created an element of REAL tension and fear, but they are so harmless and dull that they can simply be shown as a comical element, that's not good. Spencer and Hill behave towards the natives like "arrogant white foreigners who think of themselves as superior to the others", commandeering around the latter ones at their will. Maybe it's not intentionally shown that way, and just slapstick was intended, but that's the impression I had of it.

Often there are comments about movies below average to the effect that they might at least be okay for a very slow afternoon. I would like to sum up: If this one comes along at the right time on TV, and you have plenty of time, watch it. But I would not buy the VHS or (if there is any, I didn't check that) the DVD. Only enjoyable for collectors who want to have ALL available movies where Spencer and/or Hill were involved. Otherwise I'd suggest to leave it out and instead to watch those of Spencer's movies where he played Commissare Rizzo (aka Piedone), or, those of Hill's movies which are set in a Western scene. Two stars for Spencer's grumbling and brawling, one star for the only touching moment (when the Japanese admits that he has a son, and reminisces the old days, decades ago).

A rather desperate unfunny action comedy with some nice locations
vampire_hounddog21 August 2020
A stowaway (Terence Hill) on board a small yacht has a treasure map and convinces the solo skipper (Bud Spencer) when found to find the treasure from WWII on a small Pacific island. When they find the island they encounter natives, a former WWII Japanese soldier and some leather clad pirates.

Filmed at and just off Key Biscayne, Florida, this Italo-US comedy that once again stars the winning formula of Terence Hill and Bud Spencer is pretty dreadful and desperate stuff both as comedy and action. Despite their huge popularity in Europe, there is not fone funny moment or titter in the film.

Can't believe Sergio Corbucci made this film
rudeboydreas-365-9391632 February 2024
It's hard to believe that Sergio Corbucci was at all responsible for this film. How the mighty fell at the end of his career!

Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer seemed to have no chemistry, nobody else in the film seemed like a real character. What were the pirates all about?

Honestly, this is the worst film I have sat through in a long time.

As for the humour, I don't think I laughed once at this film.

It seemed in the vein of Police Academy, but without any laughs.

The theme song is godawful, but it goes on through the film.

The ending is completely absurd.

Don't waste your time with this absolute mess.
