Not even remotely funny

Eric Tsang directs and stars in a messy, really unfunny scifi comedy about a future where women lord over men, there are designer children and men breast feed. (The plot begins to get complicated after the set up but odds are you won't be sticking around) At least I think that's what it was about since my patience for this sort of garbage was very limited and I only made it about 30 minutes in before I turned it off wondering why it took me that log to do so. It's the sort of frantic, half thought out comedy that I don't particularly like. I would love to say the problem is the gulf between the Eastern and Western comic sense of funny but I've seen enough HK comedies to know that the real problem is Eric Tsang. Tsang is normally a very good actor and he is a good director of action films which tend to be raw and nasty, but when it comes to comedy has the ability to pick the most unfunny material imaginable. Here the material is shrill, way to knowing, really far from clever and not even in any sort of ballpark when it comes to funny. For my money Tsang has made some the worst comedies in film history and I really need to remember that when I choose a movie with him in it.

This is a movie to avoid.
