Naked murder mystery
JBSdude4 January 2005
It's been a few years since I've seen it but Naked Obsession is one of the better "B" movies of all time. It stars William Katt who played TV's "Greatest American Hero". Also, look for a small role by former 49ers running back, Roger Craig. Not many stars here but a pretty good plot.

The movies begins with a city councilman, played by Katt, deciding to explore the darker side of town to research a community development initiative. He eventually ends up at a strip joint and is later framed for a murder. The movie gets very sexy from here which makes it worth checking out.

NOT BAD
jonpd4 November 2002
Pretty wierd film. William Katt's performance makes up for a lot in this thriller about a man who is framed for the murder of a stripper with whom he had sex with. The other performances are stale (especially Wendy MacDonald's) but Maria Ford is a hot one and the sex scenes are pretty graphic (which should amuse some people out there). Altogether, worth watching with a date or with a bunch of your friends and a six pack on a boring Friday night. 5/10

Cinematic junk food: cheezy but oddly enticing
ishimita19 September 1999
With an inane plot, moronic script, half-assed directing, and, worst of all, inept acting -- in a word, CHEEZY -- you have to question why a movie like this even exists. The quick answer is sexploitation, of course, but then why not just pile on the sex, instead of complicating it with (a) a noir cliche like the crusading public servant falling into moral dissolution, (b) the enigmatic Christoid character from another plane of reality, whose name, Sam Silver, is a takeoff on the director's name? This dud was in the theater for one week before it disappeared, and when I went I was the only person in the audience! To see this was slumming and it was a guilty pleasure like junk food. The only reason I remember it is because of the unexplained pretentiousness of inserting an ill-fitting note of profundity in the person of Sam Silver, and especially, the presence of Elena Sahagun, a very beautiful and underappreciated actress. It was worth the price of admission just to see her prancing in sexy white lingerie. Please, someone, give her a major role in a well-directed quality film and let her shine. She deserves much better!

The Sexiest Film from the 90´s
claudio_carvalho26 December 2017
The honest and uncorrupt councilor Franklyn Carlysle (William Katt) is running the election to mayor supported by his wife Saundra (Wendy MacDonald) and his secretary Becky (Elena Sahagun). When the lobbyist Mitch (Tommy Hinkley) shows the project of recovering a neighborhood of bad reputation, Franklyns foresses the chance to win the election and decides to visit the place. However he is robbed and the stranger Sam Silver (Rick Dean) brings him to a night-club to call his wife. However Franklyn sees the show of the stripper Lynne Hauser (Maria Ford) and finds his car parked in front of the spot. On the next night, Franklyn returns to the night-club with Sam and Lynne asks for a ride home. They have one-night stand and Franklyns learns that Lynne likes to be choked during the intercourse. On the next night, Franklyn decides to meet Lynne to tell that they had only one-night stand and learns that she is dead. Now his life turns upside down when the police Detective Ludlow (Roger Craig) chases him. What will Franklyn do?

"Naked Obsession" is certainly the sexiest film from the 90´s. The hot Maria Ford steals the show with her body and beauty. The story is not bad for a B-movie; the performances are great; but the rushed conclusion is deceptive. Unfortunately this film was only released on VHS. My vote is seven.

SALTY FRUIT BASKET THAT TASTES LIKE KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN.
Bronco2216 November 1998
I liked this passionate fluffy gem that had classic strip scenes that screamed out Oscar. Oscar is my name. As I watched this epic deer frolick through the desert, I asked myself "am I really here? Am I really naked in this closet I call home? Do I want pizza or cereal right now?" those are the questions I pondered. I couldn't come up with answers because I was so captivated by the beauty and radiance of the lead actress. She made me feel like I was Fredrico and that this was my castle. I often found myself sitting on top of my television set naked, perched over the top watching this movie from above. I didn't care that it was 5:19am and that I had to get up at 7:00, this was all to captivating to miss, especially with constant sex and nudity, I couldn't turn off the TV and say "no". It was almost a rule or a law that I finish watching it. I couldn't escape the clutch of pure erotic fruit that so intoxicated me to the point of no return. -**1/2 stars

A fun guilty pleasure movie with decent acting
SykkBoy25 May 2001
I first saw this movie a long time ago on Joe Bob Briggs' Drive-In Theater (remember when TMC had this...they REALLY need to bring him back).

A decent cast with the gorgeous Maria Ford, one of my favorite porn stars Madison (billed as Madison Stone), Rick Dean (in an amazing performance), William Katt (Greatest American Hero), Wendy MacDonald and the lovely Elena Sahagan...plus a special appearance by my favorite cheesy movie director, Fred Olen Ray and Roger Craig (yes, the football player).

The plot is a bit simple, a city councilman rallying against filfth wanders into a strip club and ends up in trouble...

Rick Dean as Sam Silver is amazing and mesmerizing. The strip club scenes are great and the dances well choreographed...too often movies set in strip clubs have gals on stage who look like they've never seen a pole before....

The addition of a bit of a surprise ending and some dark humor make this one of those great popcorn flicks...

AKA: Sunset Strip
Tim4salt28 November 2002
I saw this movie many years ago, and never forgot it. When I saw it on cable, it was called sunset strip. It is much better than most movies of this type, and much better than you would think based on the low rating. I have been looking for it under that name for many years. I just stumbled on it while looking for the actress in perfect fit (Maria Ford). Not just another sexplotation b-movie.

Roger Craig is in it! Nuff said. Spoilers!
BlackJack_B14 January 2002
Warning: Spoilers
As a long time fan of the San Francisco 49ers, I was very interested in seeing the great Roger Craig, the running back who was a member of 3 Super Bowl winning teams in the 80's in his acting debut. He doesn't disappoint in his cameo, playing a detective who is investigating a murder and chases a suspect who was pointed at by someone who saw him with the victim. Roger runs down an alley, showing off the moves that made him the NFL's first 1000-1000 player, including a nasty stiff arm and some strong language to boot. He then gets into his police car and barrels down the road, still on the suspects trail. After the car can't be driven no further, he gets out and while continuing the chase, is tripped up by the suspect's brand new friend. Roger then proceeds to beat him up and handcuff him to a pipe. Roger then lights a cigarette and gets back in the car, where he suddenly has a heart attack and dies.

How did this happen? William Katt plays Franklyn Carlisle, a councilman who is running for Mayor. One of his plans is to clean up the city of it's filth. One night, while driving through the red district, he is mugged. He wakes up in an alley and meets up with a strange man named Sam Silver. Mr. Silver introduces Franklyn to the sins of the Ying Yang Club, a gentleman's club. One of the ladies who works there (Maria Ford) takes a liking to him, which excited him because he isn't happy with his marriage. He also finds that his car has miraculously returned after it was stolen.

The next night, Franklyn returns to the area to search for Sam again. They meet and talk. Sam isn't happy with proposals to close down the club, saying that cities need to have a good side and and bad side. The woman that likes him has finished her shift and asks if he can drive her home. He agrees and you know what happens next. There is an interesting storyline with Lynn Hauser's interest in being choked while having sex.

The night was such a smashing success that the next morning Franklyn goes down to Lynn's house for another session, only to find she's been murdered. Roger does his thing, then after he expires, Franklyn uncuffs Sam and tells him what happened. Sam just gives him some cryptic advice or something. Franklyn goes back home to discover his wife is having an affair with his best friend. They have a fight, and when he wins it, his wife admonishes him and goes to see how her lover is. While cleaning up in the bathroom, Franklyn hears gunshots and discovers his wife and friend have been murdered. He's also given a note to be at the Ying Yang Club, which is closed due to the investigation of the murder and to Roger's death. He goes in, is knocked out, awakens to see someone on stage doing a striptease, and finds out it's his secretary who has a big crush on him. She decides to choke him to death because he'd had sex with Lynn, but just before he's about expire, Sam comes in and shoots her with a gun to save his life. Sam also had a tape of what she said, admitting she'd killed Lynn and the others. Franklyn decides that he doesn't want to change the world any more and just decides to live a new life because his reputation was ruined, but he never finds out the true mystery of Sam Silver. Is he an angel, or the devil, or both?

I loved this movie. It has good acting, direction, and the storyline has lots of twists. It's a bit silly, too. Fred Olen Ray, the infamous B-movie director, has a cameo, playing the MC who announces the acts at the Ying Yang Club. Maria Ford and Elena Sahagun are great, too, and do a better job of doing a striptease than Demi Moore could. Rick Dean is terrific as well. But it's Roger Craig who steals the show. Why he didn't get more offers after this is beyond me. See it just for him, you won't be disappointed.

An unknown gem -- superb psychological thriller
smokehill retrievers27 September 2003
Perhaps not enough car chases or gratuitous sex for the under-25 crowd, but if dark psychological thrillers work for you, don't miss this one.

A very different film that seems straightforward at first but quickly descends to a dark, quirky film with outstanding performances by Katt and Dean, both very underrated and underused actors of great skill. Katt has come a long way since he was Carrie's ill-fated prom date. His dark partner-mentor in this film, "Sam Silver," keeps Katt -- and certainly the viewer -- confused and off-balance: who is this guy? Devil? Guardian Angel? The "666" address of the topless bar gives us a clue -- maybe. This guy Dean is further proof that Hollywood just doesn't know what to do with spectacular talent; he generally just plays strange character roles instead of the meatier stuff he should be doing.

This offbeat little offering is in a class by itself. Perhaps not the perfect family film for the little kiddies, but for the viewer with half a brain and a taste for juicy, twisting plots this is a rare treat.

Welcome to the Dark Side!

The soundtrack was surprisingly good. William Katt is perfect as the councilman pulled by a mysterious stranger who holds his fate. maria ford is totally HOT as the object of his desire. Becky Woo should be rich from the song Welcome to the Dark Side.

A splendidly smart, sexy and sleazy doozy of a 90's direct-to-video erotic thriller
Woodyanders17 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Boyish, curly-haired, perpetually ingenuous William Katt gives a very personable and persuasive performance as sweet, but wimpy West Coast councilman Franklyn Carlyle, who has aspirations to be mayor and a frigid, unresponsive iceberg of a wife (a perfectly bitchy Wendy McDonald). Franklyn decides that the best way to become mayor is by cleaning up his sleepy California burg's seamy red light district. Franklyn visits the conspicuously cruddy side of town and becomes dangerously involved with scruffy, philosophical, Mephistophelean derelict Sam Silver (excellently portrayed with infectiously impish aplomb by the late, great Rick Dean) and kittenishly masochistic, but irresistibly alluring stripper Lynne Hauser (deliciously essayed with appropriately naughty abandon by the lovely, leggy, flaxen-tressed, curvaceous hottie supreme Maria Ford).

Dan Golden's flashy, imaginative (the odd, haunting black and white nightmare scenes are especially effective), and straightforward direction unravels the complex, yet lucid and luridly compelling story in an absorbing and enjoyable fashion; the plot twists are delightfully wild and rather preposterous, which only enhances rather than detracts from the terrifically trashy fun. Moreover, the coarse dialogue is often funny (I absolutely loved Sam Silver's crude, but cosmic words of wisdom: "*Beep* that s**t!"), the copious nudity and strenuous sex scenes are smoking hot arousing stuff, and the hazy, gaudy, dimly lit squalid nudie bar ambiance is expertly rendered in a most gleeful, colorful and even credible way. Popping up in nifty supporting parts are Tommy Hinkley as Franklyn's odious jerk of a rival, Elena Sahagun as Franklyn's loyal, loving secretary, luscious porn starlet Madison Stone as a well-endowed stripper, and tireless schlock movie director Fred Olen Ray as the scuzzy strip club's slick'n'slimy sleazeball emcee. Better still, the film even explores in a provocative and penetrating manner the weighty concept of fate versus free will. A spicy, sizzling and above all surprisingly smart erotic mystery thriller gem.

The Naked Truth in advertising
Dr. Gore8 May 2003
Warning: Spoilers
*SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT*

I bought this video for 5 bucks at my local video store. The back of the box says: "The greatest topless bar flick ever made." With that kind of endorsement, I couldn't resist. After viewing it, I'm not sure if it's the greatest ever made, but it's up there.

So this councilman gets himself interested in a downtown strip club. A homeless guy takes pity on him and shows him the ropes. The address above the club was "666". The bum may have been the devil. I'm not sure. I am sure that there was a lot of topless dancing in this flick. They had one girl who was in leather dancing to a song called "Be my slave". That was the highlight.

There's a murder or two to spice things up but basically there is topless strippers doing their thing. The word "Naked" in the title was telling the truth. I just wish they had more of the girl in the leather. Grrrrrrrrrr..

Good Movie with Satanic Implications
shadgrin5 May 2002
The moral of this movie. One is never certain when evil enters one's life. As Lao-Tzu has said, "Only when man recognizes beauty as such, does ugliness become reality. Only when man recognizes goodness as such, does evil become reality."

Superb little gem of a thriller. Hitchcock would've loved it
smokehill14 May 2000
One of the great hidden gems of late-night cable. The main actor, William Katt, has come a long way since he was Carrie's date for the prom. A second-generation actor (Bill Williams and Barbara Hale's son), Katt is great in this role, but the movie is stolen by the masterful performance of Rick Dean as the very bizarre "Sam Silver" in this Hitchcockian thriller. If ever there was an example of how big a part luck and studio hype play in film success, this is it. This movie deserves to be well-known, and it should have catapulted Rick Dean into a major role. Watch this movie, and tape it for your friends who have taste.
