The World's Greatest Soap!!!
nathid3 February 2001
Savannah was the best soap ever! How could Aaron Spelling have cancelled it after just two seasons? It was much better than Dynasty, which seemed to run forever! The storylines were excellent, the acting was awesome, and the three main cast members (Jamie Luner, Robyn Lively, and Shannon sturges) were beautiful!

Savannah really had the potential to become a long-running series, but it was cancelled just when the story was at a crucial point and it ended with a cliff-hanger.

Savannah could have become a bigger success than Dallas if it was given the chance. I'm appalled at the network that cancelled it!!!

Not happy with Cancellation
taralynhuber28 February 2021
As other reviewers have stated, the show was cancelled and it was far too early to do so. They left us with a cliff hanger. The shows scenery was amazing, the actors and actresses were beautiful and handsome. The accents were spot on. The drama was so nail biting! It's sad that this show was on WB channel. The channel back in the 90s was known more like comedy sitcoms. But WB did bring us Dawson's Creek and Felicity and Gilmore Girls. So I'm sure Aaron thought it would be a good move to bring it there. I just can't for the life of me understand why it was cancelled. Everyone who saw the show absolutely loved it. Very reminiscent of any drama made by Aaron spelling. Kind of like Dallas, dynasty, melrose. I absolutely loved Jamie Luner! Always have since just the 10 of us. Wish they would reboot this show. We need it.

Greatest Show Ever
CaitONeill11 December 2006
Savannah was by far Aaron Spelling's greatest series. i couldn't relate to these Southern characters one bit, but loved every minute of it! Seriously why did they take this show off the air? Why did they leave us in the middle of nowhere and not finish out the season? More importantly why do they not have the two season they did complete available for purchase on DVD? Obviously people love it! If people did not love it then message bored like this would not exist. More over there are many more message boards out there! I saw one who was a guy in another country offering the season on DVD for 40 euros. Anyone know of anywhere to purchase them in the U.S.? I would love more then anything to get a hold of these. I have never even heard of them for sale anywhere though? Thanks! ~Caitlin~

A great and tense drama with lovely accents

I loved this TV show, even though it has just finished in the UK. The cliffhangers were great. Every episode you had to watch the next one to see how they got out of the situation. If you liked Sunset Beach then you would of loved this! It's done by Aaron Spelling. The acting wasn't Oscar winning but the bitchiness between the characters and the double crossing was just brilliant! Maybe one day it will be brought back. Who knows?

Used to be on the show
nickalusmom19 April 2009
I used to be a frequent on screen actress on the show. It was an interesting set to be on. On the up side, their food was excellent. Probably the best set food I ever had. We filmed in different parts of GA. Once it was in this beautiful old court house, another we were at the Atlanta airport. Their behind the camera crew, was the nicest I had ever dealt with. Most of the cast was really friendly too. One particular person, to remain not mentioned here, could have watched her attitude a little. I lost total respect of her and I used to love watching her on a "large family show." I am also happy I do not watch the soap she has been casted into.

Savannah is one of the best dramas on television!
lovebug197926 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I was so disappointed when the show was canceled. To me it was one of the best soap opera type shows. Jamie Luner kicked butt with her sassy-don't-take-crap-off anyone attitude! The fact that her best "friends" turned out to be her sister was unbelievable. It's been awhile since I've seen it, but would love to see reruns. The love, lust, heart break, and gossiping tales were steamy and just grabbed your attention. It's just too bad that the networks take the good stuff off the air. All My Children and One Life To Live are okay, but they need to keep the good stuff on! Shows can only last so long, but I think it didn't even last 3 seasons. Maybe i'll get hanged with saying this, but The Gilmore Girls and Seventh Heaven can just go. They both are too blah. Charmed kicks butt, but I miss Shannon Doherty but understand that Pru dying made the show a little more interesting. :).

There's a reason shows get cancelled...
m-478269 February 2023
As far as Savannah is concerned, it was for trying to compete with other prime time soaps, when it should've stayed a family drama, that borders on trashy soap. The first season was the perfect example of that, it remained « innocent » while disseminating juicy storylines, here and there. Season two had a good start, then it went downhill, after adding new cast members and more sleeping arounds and betrayals, by the sadly stereotypical Peyton character. They even tried to revive her character, through Lexi Sterling on Melrose Place, so I can see why it got ruined at one point. I guess the actress was just too good at playing those backstabbing itch roles... The only genuinely good thing about this show, was channeling Spelling's magic and being the first of many WB dramas, that inspired shows like Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill. Or even Charmed, to some extent. Other than that, it was a below average soap opera, that got stale after its first season. And even Spelling himself knew that, so he decided to tank what remained of it, to push his new finding of the time, 7th Heaven, in the foreground instead. It's my second time re-watching the series, and I was struggling at the same exact part as before. So maybe viewers did too... The series finale, was a nice last second improvement, though.

Great Show
jukedout2324 March 2003
I watched Savannah when I was eleven years old and I loved it. I was checking out the other comments and I have to agree that the show always made you want to tune in to see what would happen next. I've also noticed that other WB shows use reference to it like if you watch re-run episodes of "Sister, Sister" or "Unhapily Ever After."

Why was it cancelled though? The plot was great, the writing was excellent, the acting wasn't cheezy, and the babes were hot as hell. Especially Jamie Lunar who I believe originally tried out for Robyn Lively's part but instead got cast as the main vixen. If you like this show you would have liked "Pacific Palasades" as well. It's just sad taht "Savannah" will never return. It left me with a cliff hanger from the first season. At the time you could only see the WB on WGN-Chicago, but the cable company took away WGN so I was left in the dark to know what happened with Robyn Lively's character as she blacked out from a drug addiction and was going to skip out on her own wedding night. Why are there no shows like this on today? Everything is too serious!

i really enjoyed it
angel_22-18 November 2006
i remember watching this when i was about 12 yrs old and loving it but a lot of the time i couldn't cos it was on so late over here in the UK. but i really enjoyed watching i might not have know what it was about apart from a cruise ship called the Savannah and it had a casino on bored but thats about it. but i really did like watching it I'm just glad it was on at the weekend when i watched it otherwise i couldn't. i really hope they start showing reruns of it here in the UK. cos although it was a cheesy adult program it was really fun to watch and the cliff hangers usually kept the views wanting more from it. but then it ended and i missed the last one so when i went to watch it again and it weren't on i just forgot about it. and i never heard of it again. and i even forgot all about it till i started watching CSI and spotted George Eads on it and at first i thought it was Cole from sunset beach but obviously it wasn't. but it was a really enjoyable program to watch.

great news for SAVANNAH fans
RavenGlamDVDCollector18 April 2014
At last, a totally helpful review from RavenGlamDVDCollector@gmail.com! Fans who want it on DVD can purchase it from DVD-Rare. This is a trustworthy company that does deliver and it is just such a crying shame they have such limited titles. Okay, so this product is not an official release, the end result is not 100% when compared to your typical store-bought DVD like MELROSE PLACE, but for Jamie Luner fans, there is no other way. TV's most exciting actress of the Nineties!

Just Google SAVANNAH and look out for the DVD- Rare entry. Rest assured that your selection will be sent to you, these aren't fly-by-nighters, no scam, just a good friend for Hard- go-Find titles. My order was placed from South Africa during November 2013, and I received it in record time. Thanks DVD-Rare, a great buy, worth every penny! I'd been searching for years, since 2007!

I must say, I think this is perhaps the most helpful review posted on IMDb today, as there are loads of fans of this truly marvelous series out there dearly longing to have it in their DVD collections, and lots of scam artists out there as well claiming to have it, but dead-end leads they turn out to be.

A sincere thanks to everybody who were involved with this superb TV show. I never saw the second season, I'm currently rationing the first season to make it last a long time. But it's gonna get an actual review from me some day soon. Meanwhile, I thought I'd help a few fans out of their can't- find misery (I know the feeling only too well!)

Addendum, 3 May. I have decided to add an actual review more in the style of the other contributors as I go along watching this series. Tonight I'm watching episode 5.

Peyton's mother Lucille is the head of the Burton family household, but her own daughter views her as a glorified maid. They live under the same roof, and Peyton is apparently friends with Reese Burton, the pampered rich heiress to her father's fortune. If Reese can be considered as spoiled, it is not so in a negative way. Peyton is jealous of her. But Peyton doesn't count her own blessings. Instead, she longs for the designer clothes and the cherry-red convertible, but meanwhile, makes up for this by sneaking an affair with Reese's boyfriend Travis, who calls her Bunny. And videotapes their encounters. As he does with all the young women in his life. But Reese's taped evidence is kinda a bummer. She's saving herself for marriage. So Travis goes all the way with hot Bunny. But the date is set for marriage with Reese, despite the prenuptial agreement clearly insisted upon by Reese's father Edward. The relationship Reese has with her father is strained. Actually, Edward is merely strict and doles his advice out a bit heavy-handedly without showing any real affection, but he is also prone to greed and envy. And loves gambling, although poker isn't his strongest suit. He loses the S.S. Savannah to Tom Massick's loaded hand. It is an empty victory for Tom, who had an old score to settle with him, for Edward hands over the deed with a smile. And Edward's eying Tom's pretty assistant, who's really his fellow conspirator, as they are con artists de luxe.

Bunny Peyton, with the silky-soft auburn hair, does Travis right before the wedding ceremony, receives a gift from him, a beautiful piece of jewelery. She is promised that once the merger has settled in, Travis will divorce Reese. But then she learns about the prenuptial agreement and the plans Travis has not to use birth control and start a family immediately. Drop dead, Travis! Turns out the piece of jewelery is a $100 fake. Poor Peyton is down in the dumps. Reese indeed has everything. Even the love of Peyton's mother, which is the final straw. So Peyton takes something for herself, switching the cheap ornament for the real thing from Reese's multitude of wedding gifts. But she forgot about the inscription. 'To Bunny, Wedding Bells Will Not Keep Us Apart' which of course knocks Reese for a loop when she opens the gift. Travis's name becomes less than mud. Attempts by him to salvage the situation by bribing a friend to pretend it was all a practical joke does put him temporarily back in the saddle, but Peyton hires Monica, a local stripper, to pretend to be Bunny, and orchestrates Reese finding her in the naked flesh in the newlyweds' apartment. Travis confronts Peyton, a fight ensues, Peyton conks him with a wine bottle, he's down, dead? Peyton stuffs him into the trunk of her car, but develops a flat, is assisted by Dean, and the body mysteriously disappears as if it had all been a bad dream. Only to resurface as if Travis drowned in the river. Peyton goes to considerable lengths to hide any involvement with Travis, breaking into his apartment to try find the videotape which got mixed up with a return to a video store. Lucille tries to warn Peyton that she is on the wrong path and that it will cost her dearly.

Wonderful Primetime Drama
jukedout2325 March 2003
I watched this show whenever I was eleven years old and I have to agree with the other comments by saying that each episode always made you want to tune in to find out what would happen next. I have also noticed that there are some references to "Savannah" in other re-runs of WB shows during that time like "Sister, Sister" and "Unhappily Ever After."

I only got to see the first season, but I think that the second season sounded much better. The cable company at the time showed the WB only through WGN-Chicago, and they took it off right after a cliffhanger when Robyn Lively's character (Reese, I think) blacked out on her own wedding night and went into the wrong hotel room. Drama today is too serious, why can't we have more shows like this show? If you also liked this show then you might have liked "Pacific Palisades" as well, but they never last.

Most Suberp Soap Ever.
Felicityfan_4ever28 July 2002
Savannah is without a doubt the best primetime soap i've ever seen. While the acting was far from first rate, the storylines were intriquing and the writing was great. every episode made you want to tune in to see what would happen next. Jamie Luner was great as Mega-b**** Peyton Richards.

Please, continue with Savannah!
dito-610 October 2000
This is a message to Aaron Spelling! Why decided to cancel Savannah? Is the best show that I've ever seen. Even better than Dynasty. Please, made more chapters of Savannah and Dynasty, because we need it! I think that it will have a great success, probably not in the USA but of course in Europe, South America and other countries that are a big market for this kind of products! I think that this startegy will be very good for you!
