A chicken at a barn dance tries to find a suitor. The only one who seems to be interested is a practical joker.
It's the last cartoon directed by Ben Harrison, who had begun, as so many had, as a newspaper cartoon, back in 1912, when he was all of 15 or sixteen. By the late 1920s, he was co-directing the Krazy Kat cartoons with. Manny Gould. In 1940 ad 1941, Columbia's cartoon department was crumbling, and Harrison got out.
Given his experience, this is a well constructed and executed cartoon, with lots of gags based on stereotypes of the era and an egg-laying sequence that is particularly good.
