Honeybone is an engineer and is contacted by Killick to be told that he is a test for a possible mole in the department and Honeybone's role is to say that he will give away secrets. Meanwhile Honeybone meets and befriends a new contact - it turns out to be the mole. The mole's girl comments 'I feel like a prostitute' and the mole replied - 'that is exactly what you are my dear.' Killik later contacts Honeybone and tells him to get on with the job that he will give up secrets. He then lets slip to the mole that he is on his way to Strasbourg where he disappears. Honeybone has said he will give away secrets to the mole The final scene is a phone call taken by the mole- 'oh you have got him. Well treat him nicely I was at school with him. oh and by the way I have just met someone who may be of use to you.' The mole is a mole and has given away Killik's movement so he can be kidnapped and has passed on the name of Honeybone. Plot very reliant on Kim Philby who was then very much in the public consciousness.

The latest micro-circuitry has allowed "contact" that is the minds of dying people to be transferred to the living. It is the era of immortality. The dead person 'somes over' to the living recipient. Pre contact films are shown where the audience laugh as the people die without a possibility of living on in others minds.
But there are problems - one doctor complains that they are producing a nation of schizophrenics as a 17 y o whose mother has come over now cannot touch a girl without screaming.
The authorities are meant to set up emergency contact centres but this is patchily done and the lead meets a stranger in a pub and allows himself to be a contact in the event of death of the stranger. And then takes him home to his wife. A child is born and when the father and mother go out to the cinema leaving the stranger who has now moved in to baby sit - they find him at the back of the cinema having left the child alone. he explains he did that because he is worried about his contact - dying.
They chuck him out and then get wind he might be committing suicide. So they go over to the flat where he now is and he is inside just about to shoot himself, It is vital they keep him alive so that they can erase the contact. They fail. He shoots himself and he comes over the husband. The husband and wife are in the dead man's flat when he comes over and the husband says - underneath the bed you will find a box. She does. and in this box, you will find.... The camera pulls back as she takes out the objects as he enumerates them. He has come over
Later the brother in law comes over and asks if things have changed at all - and he suggests events in bed are more interesting and less boring, the young mother blushes. The final scene is where she draws back the curtains and finds the windows sealed and barred. The husband comments "I have been worried about your safety - but you are really safe now" echoing the contacts anxiety about safety .....
