Summer Still A Solid Singer
ccthemovieman-15 January 2007
Ex-disco queen Donna Summer sings her old hits, disco and otherwise, in an up-to-date concert.

This was very good. Summer still has a solid, powerful voice, a nice manner about her, and most of the songs here are just fine. the disco numbers, by now, are nostalgic. Most of them are ones I have enjoyed listening to for years. Donna can still sing them pretty well, perhaps not as well as when she was younger but close enough.

Summer also gives a "testimony" or two. She isn't afraid to show hr Christianity, which is refreshing to see....especially in front of a VHS-1 crowd.

In one song, she does a duet with Australian singer Tina Arena, someone I don't know but someone whose voice sure impressed me.

The time here goes by quickly so that tells you it's a pretty good concert. I had the VHS of this but now own the DVD which gives a better picture and much better sound.

Donna Summer Gives Her Very Best
StrictlyConfidential10 April 2020
During the hedonistic "Disco Era" in pop music history (1972-1979) - Donna Summer (1948-2012) was, without question, one of the most popular and widely celebrated performers of her generation, bar none.

Filmed before a live audience (in 1999) at the Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC - This entertaining "Encore!" presentation offers the viewer an excellent opportunity to see and hear Donna Summer (backed by a band of first-rate musicians) who was still very much at the top of her game (at the age of 50) as a truly dynamic singer.

Summer Shines

Listening to the cd, Live and more Encore is half as good as Seeing this woman perform! It's not a show with dancers and light effects, but purely a singer filling up the place with her golden voice. The Diva's of today could learn a lot by watching Donna Summer perform her biggest hits + some really great new tracks that are completely different from her hits.

She was the queen of Disco... Now she is Donna Summer.

The best voice ever! The undisputed queen of disco.

This concert clearly shows why long time of her career have never disputed her ability and reputation as a queen of disco.

In my opinion she has better and powerful voice than Whitney Houston, for Donna manages to hold the long note in the 'Macarthur Park'.

'I feel love' is just amazing that it will make you want to dance to it, and the duet with Tina Arena 'No More Tears' is so good and it is in fact better than the original with Barbra Streisand where Barbra just screams to get more attention than Donna.

She shares her personal experience with the audience, and she reveals the un released track.

Then she gives explosive performance of 'She Works Hard for the money', 'Bad Girls', and 'Hot Stuff'. Those three performances show why she has become queen of rock and disco.

The show finished with the 'Last Dance', and everybody dances like crazy!

Its bonus video "I Will Go With You' is very artistic and the song is powerful enough to show Donna's ability to sing.

I'm only 15 years old, and never lived in the disco era, but now she's my favorite artist, and I'm sure yours will be too after watching the show.

There are diva's - And there's Donna Summer!

This 1999 live performance proves that people get better with age. Donna Summer has never sounded better. Also, I love the way she has updated her 70's and 80's hits. I have seen Ms. Summer well over 30 times live in the past 21 years, and without a doubt, the 1999 tour was her best. On a personal note: Donna you have been a joy and inspiration over the years. I hope I'm fortunate enough to attend more of your show's in the years to come.
