Witty, sardonic presentation of some pretty good recipes

I buy Nigella's book as much for her highly personal, intimate and self aware writing style as for the recipes. The books are well worth having for their celebration of food and the pleasures of eating, even if the (verrry British) approach to cuisine isn't quite your cup of tea.

Same thing for the show. Like "Naked Chef", "Nigella Bites" is a showcase for her personality and her love of cooking and eating. She's like the best female friend you ever had that you hesitate to introduce to your other friends for fear they may not know what to make of her. I've got nothing against "sunnier" food celebrities like Giada De Laurentiis and Rachel Ray, but Nigella just seems inherently more complex and interesting; she seems to be someone you'd really want to get to know and hang out with, not just cook with.

Anyway, about the food: typical recipe selections skew heavily towards comfort food and things that don't demand too much effort from a reasonably skilled cook with a reasonably well-stocked pantry. (These are also dishes that don't demand much from the diner, either, although they often seem a bit heavy on the cream and the fat for modern American tastes.) I've been able to make several of these dishes just from seeing them done on the show and taking notes, and the results were fine - not the best dishes I've ever made (that would be America's Test Kitchen) and not the most interesting dishes I've ever made (that would be Alton Brown), but still very enjoyable and well worth the effort.

I like the show a lot and wish Food Network would show it more than once a week, but those are the breaks. I'll continue to try to catch it when I can (but I'm not so far gone on it that I'll tape it or TIVO it or anything).

Total food porn!

You can't take your eyes off the lovely Lawson, slum, busty and clad in skin tight clothes as she seduces you.

Lingering shots of her massaging, sucking and eating against a jazz soundtrack- you don't watch this to get a recipe, more men have got off while waiting for a Deliveroo!

She knows she is hot, with sultry soft voice, looks to camera, smiles and laughter making us want to be at her dinner party.

It's the sexiest TV show I have ever seen, let's face it, most of us do not have most of the ingredients or utensils in 2024 - and they are too expensive to buy. So, no wonder we order out all the time in an obesity crisis.

She's so slim, the crew must eat most of what she creates in a food orgy?

I'm not sure about the food, but Nigella looks good!

Well I'm not a '40+ middle management type needing a Jewish Mommy...' Actually I'm a 33 year old Artist & Heavy Metal musician and I think this woman is beautiful. Not too sure about the stuff she cooks, most of it looks quite scary to me but Nigella has a great voice and is very easy to look at. =)

Wonderful show

Let me say I am a self taught cook and I respect Nigella for teaching the art of cooking. She has a quick wit to go along with her beauty and cooking ability. I also love that she is not one of those perky chatty cooks that is so often seen on foot tv.

Nigella rules!

Mmmmm...Nigella Lawson is the ultimate MILF. When I started watching Food Network Canada, I ran across her old reruns of Nigella Bites and fell in love with her. It's not too often that you see such a voluptuous, upper class woman doing a cooking show. Her meals are pretty good and varied. Her screen presence is amazing as it doesn't matter what she is doing she always looks good doing it. Yes, I am aware that she is a snobby, arrogant socialite who people in the U.K. despise. However, I will take someone who is upfront about who they are and what they are all about over someone like Rachael Ray who puts on a phony mask and goes around delivering cringe-inducing hip American vernacular and tries to act like she's the coolest woman on The Food Network.

Besides, I've seen Nigella's appearances on the Canadian shows on Food Network Canada and she comes off as pretty friendly and personable. I've always found the British and Canadian cooking shows (and the Japanese version of Iron Chef) more enjoyable than the American entries.
