Camera work was good and 3 characters pulled it off
alexfreak1 December 2005
To start with the positive the Last Round had some great camera work. The shots with the camera panning around the characters in the opening was beautiful. The parts were the camera would start at a fixed object and then move right in on the actors is great. Something about camera pans just does it for me. Next is the actors. The old guy, Jack Favor, and Dave Murphy are the only ones who really pulled their characters off. The old guy had a charm about him and didn't feel like he was playing someone. Jack Favor(Sawyer) was great as almost the leader of the group. This character is what helped move the story along and make it interesting. The character was almost frightening towards the end when the situation wasn't going his way. And Dave Murphy just cracked me up as the beer chugging smart ass. This character could have been way over the top but was portrayed convincingly. Now for the negative. The music really bothered me. Through out the movie it wasn't to bad but the parts with that freaking horn bugged the crap out of me. It almost puts me to sleep just thinking of it now. Next were the other characters. Especially the dude in the suit. This guy needs some serious acting lessons. He is supposed to be this dick but he just comes off as an actor trying really hard to play a dick. The young kid also doesn't do it for me. Shame on the director for letting them be in the movie. They almost ruined it. The Persy character was kind of on the fence at times. Sometimes he did it for me other times he didn't. Overall a very worthy effort for a low budget short.

Film quality was great, big guys were fantastic.

This is one of the best, most intense shorts that I have ever seen. It really surprised me how well the acting was for such a shoestring budget. Particularly good were the acting of the fellas who played Jack Favor and Dave Murphy. Everyone else was good, but these two were the most animated , believable ones of the bunch. I was also very impressed by the picture and sound quality. Hearing that this film was a short, I expected a contrasty, shaky picture and awful sound quality. On the downside of this movie, though, it had a bit of a rushed feeling to it....the characters' backgrounds were sketchy and not very well explained. Some may even say that they seemed shallow and unpleasantly-mysterious. The other thing that I thought wasn't so hot was the special feature section...I started watching it and when I was done, asked myself what the hell it was about. They didn't seem to focus much on the movie so much as the behind the scenes crap. I really would have enjoyed if someone had spoken about the story and the characters rather then just a cookie-cutter "making of" spiel.

last round was pretty good

i just watched the last round and found it rather a disturbing subject yet strangely attracted to it .all the acting was fantastic i loved the nerdy guy percy(pierre radimak),i knew from the beginning that he was destined for death the old guy(mike hayes) was pretty good sad and lonely i'm glad he didn't die the guy they called 'dick'(rick lunello)was OK (i would have rather seen him die!) the skinny guy who was beat up i loved it when he got his ass beat by the big guy with the pony tail(phil sawyer)he was scary and very convincing as a tormented soul and unhappy character,i think i've seen him in other films.for a short it was very good and surprisingly tight fast paced. the special features kind of sucked,to much talking with the director and the other fellow (i think his brother) very pompous approach they seemed to forget it was an independent feature a team effort not enough emphasis on the actors or the creation of the story but i would give the film 7 stars!!!
