This is a short, black and white retelling of the famous Poe story, in which Spanish horror star Paul Naschy plays a killer tormented by both his conscience and the sound of a beating heart. At only nine minutes in length, it doesn't have time to tell much of a story, but in that short time we get a film both well directed and well played, with Naschy reminding us of his eminence and enthusiasm for this particular genre.
There's atmosphere here, stylish camera shots and a great soundtrack, with the beating heart itself used to grand effect at the climax. It may not follow Poe's story slavishly, but there's nothing to dislike about this one.
