Film Preservation
India’s Film Heritage Foundation (Fhf), which enjoys the support of cinema greats Martin Scorsese and Amitabh Bachchan, is conducting the third edition of the Biennial Audio-Visual Archival Summer School in partnership with the International Federation of Film Archives. The global film preservation training workshop is coming to India for the first time and will be held at the India International Centre in Delhi Oct. 10–19.
Fhf founder Shivendra Singh Dungarpur said that the final selection of some 50 participants, from 13 African countries, Asia, Europe, Australia, South and North America reaffirms the organization’s goal to “create a worldwide network of film archivists who can work together to save their film heritage around the globe.”
Scorsese said: “The World Cinema Project is committed to locating, preserving and distributing films from all over the world. A program like Bavass benefits this mission enormously by educating future film preservationists who can share...

Josie Mason-Campbell.
Josie Mason-Campbell is departing the ABC after three years as head of entertainment and factual amid a management restructure of the content divisions.
Responsibility for entertainment and factual, the genres which are bearing the brunt of the $5 million a year reduction in local commissioning, is being split as part of the measures announced today by ABC MD David Anderson.
The specialist division is being renamed factual and education headed by Aidan Laverty, currently head of specialist.
The drama, comedy and Indigenous unit headed by Sally Riley becomes drama, entertainment and Indigenous, uniting the comedy and entertainment teams.
Michael Carrington, director entertainment and specialist, told If: “Josie has led our entertainment and factual team to great acclaim across award-winning and outstanding programs.
“In recent months, she has also been acting head of distribution, guiding our programming and scheduling across multiple channels to bring high-quality content to audiences when and how they want it.

A review of tonight's "The Walking Dead" coming up just as soon as I'm wearing a windbreaker... Early in watching "Forget," I had a thought I don't usually associate with this series, even when it's at its strongest: This is fun. Seeing the group try to adjust to something resembling pre-apocalyptic life, and particularly seeing Carol role play as the mouse she used to be, put a bounce into the proceedings. It wasn't suddenly a laugh riot, but there were running gags (the pasta maker), and people enjoying themselves, and it felt every bit as light and surprising as I imagine the experience is for Rick and the other characters. And then Carol threatened to abduct young Sam in the middle of the night and tie him to a tree in the middle of nowhere to become zombie food. This was perhaps the opposite of fun, but it was memorable...

Alexandria could indeed be the safe haven that it appears to be; however, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) continues to refuse to entertain that idea.
"Forget" was played out by the Bee Gees' "Spicks and Specks," and the song summed up Rick's attitude about Alexandria: "Where is the sun / That shone on my head? / The sun in my life / It is dead ... Where is the girl I loved / All along? / The girl that I loved / She's gone."
At this point, nothing really matters for Rick other than maintaining the status quo – that is, simply surviving – because the sun doesn't really flicker...

"The Walking Dead" may have returned from midseason hiatus weeks ago, but after a handful of middling to terrible episodes, the show was officially back this week -- along with Carol's backbone, Rick's sex drive, and Daryl's ability to trust. And there's a near-perfect chance that all three of those things will come back to bite our survivors by season's end.
Once again, I have to give my gold star this week to Carol, who made good on her machinations to infiltrate the Alexandria Bored Housewives Club and uncover the community's secrets, including where they stash all the guns and ammo (and infuriatingly small-portioned chocolate bars; more on those in a minute), and when those items will be left unattended. This leads to her scheming with Rick and Daryl (in what seems to be a now-regular -- and secret from the rest of the group -- debriefing session) to leave...

'The Block' contestants Dale and Sophie also accused the 'Sexercise' hitmaker of lip-synching at the event, while former Spicks and Specks panellist Myf.

The odds were probably stacked against the premiere of the second series of Puberty Blues on Network Ten last night.
The critically-lauded drama had a weak lead-in from The Biggest Challenge Australia, had to contend with the last quarter hour of Seven's My Kitchen Rules and Nine's The Block Fans vs Faves, and was launched at a time when Ten.s overall audience numbers are low. Ten's all-people share was just 9.4% last night.
In light of all that, the Southern Star Entertainment show did as well as it could, drawing 544,000 viewers in the five capital cities, 737,000 nationally.
That was a lot better than The Biggest Challenge.s 325,000/463,000 nationally but well below the show.s first season, when audiences were in the 700,000-800,000 range.
Ten can take some encouragement from the show's peak audience of 685,000 and that it won the timeslot in the 13-29 demographic, although its target audience is 25-...

Adam Hills: The Last Leg team: Brooker, Hills & Widdicombe
ABC1 has bought Adam Hill’s UK series called Adam Hills: The Last Leg.
Hills hosts a panel that includes regular panelists Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker and celebrity guests into the events and news that shaped the UK over the past week, in an attempt to answer matters on taboo subjects.
The eight by 30 minute episodes commissioned by Channel 4 follows a similar format from the former Spicks and Specks host’s series that ran during last year’s Paralympics. It reviewed the game’s significant moments and attempted to navigate difficult subject matter and delicate issues, with audience participation.
The show begins airing on ABC1 on Sunday February 17 at 9.45pm, before the series reverts to 9.30pm.
The show will be a mix of recorded and live studio segments with various celebrity guests.

No word on whether Adams Hills will host Spicks and Specks
Spciks and Specks, one of the ABC’s most popular shows is to make an unexpected return, the broadcaster has revealed.
But there is no word whether Adam Hills or regular team captains Myf Warhurst and Alan Brough will be a part of the music quiz.
Ther announcement of ABC’s plans for 2013 says somewhat mysteriously: “We welcome the return of Australia’s favourite music quiz show Spicks and Specks – but it will be no cover version.”
Update: The Spicks and Specks Facebook page says: “”Australia’s favourite music quiz show Spicks and Specks will be back in 2013 with a new host, new team captains and new games.”
The show had helped the ABC dominate Wednesday night viewing until it ended in late 2011.

As my friend Pam Grossman put it, "Yes, universe, I know. I know too well that time passes and we are all going to die, sooner or hopefully later. I also know that cancer sucks. You do not need to drive these points home by killing off musicians I love every other day." This was prompted by the passing of Robin Gibb just after we lost Donna Summer and several other greats. Meanwhile, my friend Davie Kaufman, the biggest Flying Burrito Brothers fan I know, was disappointed that I hadn't yet marked the passing of Chris Ethridge, an original member of the Burritos, also taken from us by cancer.
Chris Ethridge was born in Mississippi in 1947 and moved to California when he was 17. In 1967 he joined Gram Parsons in the International Submarine Band in time to play bass on the group's only LP, Safe at Home. Though its release was delayed,...

Loving the underdog is what Aussies are all about, and this was proved again last night at the 54th Annual Logies Awards Ceremony held at Crown Palladium in Melbourne.
Despite Carrie Bickmore of Channel 10.s highly successful The Project being the favourite to take out the major gong, the Gold Logie for most popular personality on TV went instead to comedian Hamish Blake of Hamish and Andy.s Gap Year.
In a minor controversy leading up to this unexpected win, while testing its new IPad application the Herald Sun experienced a technical glitch, leading to the publishing of a link to an embargoed press release containing Logies winners an hour prior to the Gold Logie being officially announced during Channel Nine.s coverage.

Carrie Bickmore has revealed that she still cannot believe that she has been nominated for a Gold Logie award. The Australian television presenter, who fronts The Project alongside Dave Hughes and Charlie Pickering, admitted that it feels "surreal" to receive a nod for the prestigious prize because she never thought she would be considered. Bickmore told the Sunday Herald Sun: "I used to sit next to [former colleague] Rove [McManus] and he would get up and get the Gold and I used to think that was such an honour. I never thought I'd ever get a nomination, so I'm just enjoying it." Other nominees for the Gold Logie include comedian Hamish Blake, breakfast TV presenter Karl Stefanovic, Spicks and Specks host Adam Hills, actress Asher Keddie and Home and Away's Esther Anderson. Charlie Pickering has slammed Channel Ten bosses for changing the air time of Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation. The Australian television personality, who hosts the comedy panel show, said that he believes that ratings would not have suffered if it had been left in its original timeslot and it could have been as "successful" as Adam Hills' Spicks and Specks. Pickering told TV Tonight: "8pm [as an airtime] is pretty unconventional. I don't often criticise the decisions of my masters, because I don't think it's politics. And the fact is everyone is an expert programmer when they're not actually programming a network. "So I'll just say Spicks and Specks was an extremely successful, broadly appealing panel/game show that was allowed to enjoy the same timeslot for the entirety of its existence. (more)...
