A delight for the viewing eyes...

This is one of those great films that will have you laughing one minute (actually most of the way thru it) and shedding tears in a couple of other parts. The characters are very easy to take into your hearts as well, in fact they're so endearing they make you want to go to an AA or NA meeting even if you don't have a problem (come on people, remember admitting you have a problem is the first step toward recovery). Tweak Random (the artist formerly known as Charles "Tweak" Moffitt) gives an awesome and hilarious performance as of course Tweak in the film. Jared "Evil Jared Hasselhoff" Hennegan also comes across as the perfect pimp ghetto Santa figure as well. Ryan Dunn and Rake Yohn of televisions "Jackass" and "Viva La Bam" fame also add a lot of fun to the film as the villains Buzz and Killer. Robert Romanus from "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" fame shows off his acting skills as the counselor of the halfway house as well. Brian Walsh, Chris Line, Marisa Kettering, Kelly Kunik, and Rod Sellers also are equally awesome in their roles in the film. So, take my advice and pick this film up right now! And keep an eye out for "A Halfway House Summer" coming soon! Enjoy, Taxi Todd

Better than expected

Traveled 130 miles to view premiere on a hunch this might be the another dark horse....that and I had very little to do on Saturday night. Anyway, I discovered a really good movie. While it does stick it's finger in the eye of Reality TV it also provides a subtle message about how hard overcoming addiction will be...sometimes you're not sure if you should laugh or cry at the circumstances as they unfold...I applaud that it did not play the nudity card ...It can be a really good date movie for the 17+ crowd...it has that foreign film genre like cinematography while delivering both laughs and a controversial message to discuss over pizza afterward...as I heard one viewer say, "It can be to Christmas what Blair Witch was to Halloween." I agree

A Christmas movie with an addictive twist.....

What a great concept in today's media world filled with reality shows. You got a hooker, former child star, a rocker, a burnout, a junkie and a cat named...uh... Wreather all living in a house trying to stay sober. The producer, Allentown's celebrity DJ Chris Line, wants nothing but to have them fall off the wagon.

Robert Romanus, most known for his character of Damone in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, is the Den Father with 8 years sober. I loved him in this role!

Bobcat Goldthwait does the drunken narration. Evil Jared Hasselholf (Bloodhound Gang) is the Evil Pimp Santa. Rake Yohn & Ryan Dunn of MTV's Jackass fame play the drug dealers bringing good tidings of coke, weed and speed. Newcomers, Charles Moffitt (Tweak) and Brian Walsh (Ryan) are convincing in their roles and add a special baked and fried flavor to the film.

The music is great. The laughs are plenty. The reality is there. A great film. I highly recommend it!

Review of "A Halfway House Christmas"
btjohnny10 December 2005
A Halfway House Christmas Is Christmas Fun? Yes! Are recovering addicts Fun. Sometimes! Is Reality TV Fun! Not really, but can be! Mix all three together and it works as a parody. "A Halfway House Chrismas" is a homegrown comedy from Eric Moyer, writer/director that is like watching home movies with @ssh@le relatives and drunken friends. The morning after is the worst part of a good party, and "AHHC" is a sobering look at real togetherness. A rocker (Rod Sellers), a child star cokewh@re (Marisa Kettering), a human weedbag with a beard (Brian Walsh), a hooker (Kelly Kunick) and a young junkie (Charles Moffit) and a cat name Wreather share the love.

The cast of likable locals and a seasoned veteran actor like Robert Romanus (Fast Times at Ridgemont High's wheeler dealer Mike Damone) as the father figure to a batch of losers ready to improve their lives. The real test is having the halfway house as part of a TV series produced by a sh*theal producer named Brett (Allentown DJ, Chris Lane is very smarmy). The middle-aged Daryl (Romanus is very well cast) sees that it's going to be a bad idea from the start. Brett sends in some drug dealers (Jackass stars Ryan Dunn and Rakeyon) to sprinke the house with smack-weed-beer-and coke like demented elves. An OD, a 'feelgood' gay motivator, and a visit from a local pimp dressed like Santa sends the housemates over the edge.

The wrap-up is very moving and pure Christmas cheer with a big party, great tunes and revenge on asshead Brett. Mostly shot in Montgomery County (Comar PA, Hatfield, Souderdon), Moyer and producer Frank Carney add a great soundtrack and narrated by Bobcat Goathwait, 'Halfway House' is a good visit. Sequel Allert!!!!! Merry F*ck!n Christmas!

I've seen it. Here's my review.

This movie was premiered in my town, and made locally. It was okay, only about an hour long. A sequel is coming out, which will be called "A Halfway House Summer". Although I have no idea when it will be released. Hopefully they are still looking for actors though because I need the experience. I don't think it will be coming to DVD though, it's more of just a short film, although I'm sure if you could figure a way to contact the director, he'd be able to sell you a copy.

On a side note, Ryan Dunn and Rake Yohn had fairly small parts in this movie. Robert Romanus (probably best known for "Fast Times At Ridgemont High") was a main character, which was the counselor for the halfway house. Anyway, if you get a chance to see it, go for it. Good amateur work.
