Powerful drama with some fine acting. Vicki or Vicky Zhao is excellent in the lead role.

Outstanding mainland drama

Moment in Peking is deep and profound.It shows lots of problems about relationship,love,family and nation honor. Zhao Wei is amazing.I always regard her as one of best Chinese actresses,but she have a huge transformation in the drama.Before I watching Moment in Peking,I never image she can play a perfect women,her acting became deeper and mature. Yao Mulan will be a classic role in her career. Except Zhao Wei,Chen Baoguo,Pan Hong and Wang Gang,the others is just so so.Pan Yueming and Hu Ke wast their role,their performance is comic and out of control. Music and cinematography is good. Moment in Peking is director Zhang Zien's best tvseries except Liu Luoguo.

Best Chinese TV drama of the year

Moment in Peking is a fascing look at the ups and downs of traditional Chinese family in turbulent times.The drama show a panorama of 1905-1937 China society by three couples & three families .You can find love,hate,affection and enemy. Zhao Wei is amazing.Of course Zhao is talent,but the role(Yao Mulan) is very different from her past.But she gave us a big surprise.I dare to say that Zhao is best TV actress of China.No one could beyond her. The others actors also outstanding!All of them do a good job. The drama is difference from the original novel.But it still is a good dictionary of the beginning of 20 century China.

CCTV series Moment in Peking adapted from Lin Yutang's famous novel which nominated Nobel Prize. Mainland famous director Zhang Zien made the series classic.Unlike taiwan version,we can see a real beijing-style series.The tittle is "moment in peking",isn't it?It's not moment in taipei,moment in hong kong. Leading actor Zhao does a spendlid job in portraying Yao Mulan. Her facial expressions and reactions are so realistic it is awing. Her movements are natural unlike some actors and actresses.Chen Baoguo,Pan Hong,Wang Gang,Zhao Kuie...these mature actors also is magnificent,they made their supporting roles supported the series.

This is a very good TV serial giving a very accurate account of life for Chinese people from the Boxer Rebellion to the Sino Japanese War.

Tremendous changes and evolutions took place in this turbulent period and they are are well reflected in the lives of all the people in the story. To me this is not really entertainment but lessons on how China and the Chinese people managed to adapt themselves to changes. Unlike most Chinese films and books making good people happy victors at the end, this story has a lot of sad outcomes and emotional people may shed tears. I would highly recommend to all Chinese people and others who want to understand and appreciate Chinese culture.

The only disappointment is Vicki Zhao. She plays a good-natured and honest woman with high morals but there is nothing spectacular or impressive about her. The actress Hu Ke who plays Niu Suyun was really great with her attractive eyes and expressions. She is not very well known and I bet she has a great future
