Within the first couple minutes of “The Family Stallone,” the new Paramount+ reality series following Sylvester Stallone and his family, we’re greeted with a predictable introductory trope: the behind-the-curtain producer prompt. Stallone takes a seat for his talking head and a producer — typically an invisible hand in reality TV, feeding questions rarely ever heard on-screen — can be faintly heard from behind the camera, asking, “How did Sylvester Stallone end up making a reality television show?”
It’s an opening that is about as by-the-book as a famous-family reality television show can be, but it’s also a particularly pertinent question here. The new show comes off of the heels of yet another professional resurgence for Stallone. After a decades-long career in film, the 76-year old actor turned to television for the first time with his recent Paramount show “Tulsa King.” The series was a hit for the streamer and...

Being in the spotlight certainly isn’t new to Vanessa Simmons. She is the daughter of rap music icon Rev Run of Run Dmc who is considered one of the early pioneers of the genre. On top of that, Vanessa became a reality TV star as a teenager thanks to her family’s show, Run’s House. The show was incredibly popular during its time on the air and allowed Vanessa and her siblings to build large fan bases. Although Vanessa tends to be a bit more private than her younger sister, Angela, she has still been very active in the entertainment industry

Whether you love them or not, the Kardashians fundamentally changed the reality TV genre with their branding and longevity, says Lauren Lazin, a veteran reality TV producer and executive producer of “For Real: The Story of Reality TV.”
“For Real” delves into the origins of a television genre that is now a staple of the pop culture zeitgeist. The series premiere airs Thursday on E!, the same network that propelled the Kardashian family to fame.
Lazin explained how the genre has evolved in the three decades since its inception.
“I think for a lot of the audience, they understand the storytelling tropes,” Lazin said. “They understand what seems real, what doesn’t seem real, what was done for the camera, what’s an authentic moment that was captured. So the audience itself is a lot more knowledgeable about the storytelling and how to view it. For the talent, they’ve gotten a lot more savvy.

Lifetime's "Project Runway Threads" should have been "MasterChef Junior," the unexpectedly great food competition between kid chefs. But while "Threads" is a competition between kids, it's inferior to both its competition and to the show that shares its name. "Project Runway Threads" dumbs everything down for its kids, from its twists (the "Surprise Door Twist" is revealed on a rotating platform as if this show was "Let's Make a Deal") to its set (which looks a collection of former pieces of the "Big Brother" house along with leftover props from "Double Dare"). The first judged challenge is between already-completed looks, so there's no sign of the process that the kids went through to create the work, and process is what's so interesting about "Project Runway." Worst of all, the kids' parents work as their assistants, which is an obvious attempt at creating drama, as is the "assistant steal" prize, which...

Actress and shoe designer Vanessa Simmons took to Instagram on Monday (Sept. 30) to share the news that she's expecting her first child with boyfriend Mike Wayans. Along with the sonogram image she announced that she has "a little princess on the way."
"Our families are super excited. Our baby is coming into two big families with lots of love and lots of joy," Simmons said later in an official statement. "This is my family's first grandchild, so everybody can't wait for her arrival."
Simmons, 30, is the oldest child of Run Dmc's Rev Run (Joseph Simmons). Her early 20s were chronicled first on the family's MTV reality show "Run's House" and then on its spin-off, "Daddy's Girls," which followed Vanessa and her sister Angela as they moved across the country to Los Angeles.
There's also quite the show business legacy on the baby's paternal side as well. Daddy Mike is the son of Damon Wayans.

Phoenix -- Arizona restaurateur Amy Bouzaglo became an instant Internet celebrity last month after demonstrating an impressively short temper on a reality TV show that helps reform struggling businesses.
The episode of "Kitchen Nightmares" drew more than a million viewers on YouTube, and Bouzaglo's vitriolic rants became popular fodder on Twitter and Facebook.
So it should surprise no one that her next step was to announce she was shopping around her own reality TV show.
These days, head butting, table flipping, belly slapping, hair pulling, smack talking and other behavior generally considered impolite have become a tested strategy for reality TV fame, as seen in the proliferation of such shows as "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," `'Basketball Wives" and the "Real Housewives" franchise.

Artists like Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye and Run-dmc all took to Cornelius' stage and delivered some pretty memorable performances.
Cornelius was found dead in his Los Angeles home after police responded to a shooting call on Wednesday. While the cause of death has not been established, multiple outlets have reported that it appears to have been a suicide. The Def Jam Records co-founder alerted fans to his temporary new job via his Twitter.com blog on Sunday, January 23, asking for suggestions and tips on how to make the website better for its millions of users.
In a series of posts, he wrote, "I'm new ceo (chief executive officer) for a week...Taking over myspace next week any ideas... what should I do to improve it?"
And by Tuesday, January 25, Simmons had already made a number of adjustments to the site - sharing his love of yoga with readers and promoting his brother Reverend Run's reality TV show "Run's House" on the MySpace home page.

Last week, Wake-Up Video commemorated an important moment in the history of hip-hop that saw the beginnings of musicians being properly compensated for the use of their songs in samples in rap tunes. On this day in 1969, another huge moment occurred in the history of sampling, as James Brown and his band recorded the song "Funky Drummer," a track that would go down in history as (likely) the most-sampled track of all time because of its drum solo.
The drums in question were played by Clyde Stubblefield, who would later come to be known as "The Funky Drummer" because of his work on this particular track. As it stands, "Funky Drummer" isn't much of a song — there's no real vocal performance from Brown and the groove just sort of ebbs and flows. Instead of a proper vocal, Brown mostly encourages various members of his band, egging them on as they jam.

Normally we aren't too impressed with pro athletes displays of wealth, but the Miami Heat's LeBron James' new Coconut Grove home in Miami's South Beach does make us pause in awe for a moment. Maybe it's all that white. How does one even begin to keep that clean?
James dropped $9 million on the three-story, 12,000-square-foot house -- wait, let's call it what it is -- the 20,000-square foot mansion that has three fountains, a pool, a bar and a docking area for not just one, but two 60-foot yachts on the outside. With those sorts of specs, the fact that it only has six bedrooms and eight-and-a-half bathrooms and a three-car garage seems relatively modest.
Of course, there's also a wine cellar, a library, a home theater, three indoor wetbars, a summer kitchen and a guest house. What about a basketball court? The Rev Run's house has one of those.

"Def Jam Rapstar" is a big release for hip-hop fans, a long-ignored group when it comes to video games. In an effort to make the release an even bigger deal, Def Jam has teamed up Cash Money Records to offer a special bonus to early adopters of the game. Anyone who purchases "Def Jam Rapstar" at a Best Buy between October 12 and October 19 will also receive a free copy of Lil Wayne's ninth album, entitled "I Am Not A Human Being."
Despite Lil Wayne's current incarceration, "I Am Not A Human Being" will be his second album released in less than a year, and fans of hip-hop will undoubtedly appreciate the two-for-one deal they're getting with the game and the album.
In addition to the album, followers of Lil Wayne can attempt his lyrical style in one of his songs, "A Milli," which is included in the game.

Diggy Simmons is already a celebrity as a result of his famous father, Rev Run, but the teen rapper has hopes of becoming a bona fide star in his own right through his music.
He's just begun his journey. Late last year, the Run-dmc progeny released freestyles on the beats for Drake's "Over" and Nas' "Made You Look," causing the teen rhyme-spitter's profile to increase.
Now, he's been tapped as a top-five MTV News "Hottest Breakthrough Mc of 2010" finalist.
"Wow, that's huge," Simmons told MTV News' Sway. "That's dope. It's crazy to me. ... I'm at a loss for words. I've grinded and whatnot, but it's been a short amount of time.

The Style Network has acquired the rerun rights to MTV series "Run's House," following life in the family of former Run-dmc rapper and hip-hop pioneer Joseph Simmons (aka Rev Run).
The deal gives Style access to episodes from all seasons of the series and includes the spinoff "Daddy's Girls."
"Run's House" premieres on Style at 11 p.m. Wednesday. After its debut, episodes will air Sundays at 9 p.m., and a "Run's House" marathon is scheduled for Saturday July 3 at 5 p.m.
"Run's House" centers around patriarch Rev Run as he tries to balance being a father, a reverend and an icon -- while trying to keep rap's royal family securely grounded. "Daddy's Girls" follows Run's eldest daughters Vanessa and Angela as they start their own business after moving to Los Angeles.

The young Mc, who hasn't been 15 years old for even four months yet, now has a record deal under his belt and a following on the Net, thanks to freestyles like the aforementioned "Made You Look" and "Diggy What, Diggy Who?!" Hova chants started several minutes prior to that.

Although Lauren Conrad has had her fill of "The Hills," MTV is extending the series' run with an additional clutch of episodes set to air in the fall.
As part of its upfront announcements to advertisers, MTV said Tuesday the docusoap will continue without the 23-year-old designer, building a new story line around newlyweds (and Conrad antagonists) Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag.
"MTV viewers will find out life in Los Angeles only gets more complicated as friendships, relationships and loyalties are tested like never before as 'The Hills' returns this fall with more episodes of Season 5," MTV said.
Note that's "more episodes of Season 5," not another season per se.
At PaleyFest last week, producers said they were planning to continue shooting footage of the remaining characters beyond the season finale. MTV likely will decide how many episodes will air based on how compelling the resulting footage is.

Simmons told the Media and Money conference in New York on Thursday that he is looking for funding for the film venture.
