Very entertaining
smr77-128 December 2006
The school is Christs Hospital near Horsham West Sussex, it is NOT a Mormon school, (as thought by Jackson Booth-Millard), it is a foundation school, (they wear the uniform as a tradition but only to lessons and formal occasions), where kids from everyday walks of life can get a good education without having to pay huge amounts of money. I was a pupil at this school and they are normal kids who listen to Rock, (as I did), Pop, Hip Hop, Rap, Dance, Reggae, Ska, Classical etc. The programs producers chose kids who are well spoken and didn't know much about rock music so that it would be an interesting experiment and an entertaining program. I doubt it would have been as entertaining to have someone in the group who knew all about AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Kiss etc. When I was at the school I played in a rock band, we had quite a few bands play and held annual rock concerts as well as have rock bands come to the school and play. Some ex pupils have gone on to be in some successful bands. Just wanted to clear that up.

Rock School

Warning: Spoilers
If you know Kiss, or Gene Simmons, and your a fan of his/theirs then you'll probably like this reality like documentary about him going to a modern school, except it is for Mormon or something and they dress in classic clothes learning classic music. Basically he has a class of at least 12 Mormon kids, they have never heard of and are not interested in rock music at all. He basically has to turn them into little rock gods to perform on stage in front of many people to prove themselves. He picks the worst but most enthusiastic kid to be leader, Emporer, he picks the best singer to be manager, Rods, and he picks the most fit and non rock loving (at first) girl to be drummer. It is a very good, sometimes embarrassing journey for these kids and Gene, but it is a good documentary series. Very good!

Its like VH1 was asking how they could completely rip "The School of Rock" off and make it into a series...

Warning: Spoilers
I admit, I like this show. It's Great. Gene Simmons teaching a bunch of English formalists how to rock? Awesome. Thats when I asked myself why I liked this, only one thing came to mind: "The School Rock." This show is a complete clone of the film, with a "reality TV" twist.

In the first episode, Gene gives the kids CDs and CD Players as homework, just as Jack Black did. Later the kids will participate in a concert, just as in the movie. I know, you get the point...

Basically, if you liked "The School of Rock," you'll love "Rock School," because you loved "The School of Rock." Soon, you'll find it quite predictable, but its still fun, and as cool as reality TV can get. Screw eating bugs.

This show turned my life around

Warning: Spoilers
Although I didn't see the 2nd series in early 2006, I decided to watch all 4 episodes over & over & over again for most of 2021 as this really got me back into music (mainly classic Dad rock & obscure Noughties dance); for the first few weeks of 2021, music was a bit scarce. I think Gene changed those 12 Lowestoft pupils around; a lot of people associate the show with star pupil Lil', but for me, I had 3 girl crushes (Ellie, Lily & Samanie) who I'll always fancy especially the latter. I really enjoyed the classic Dad/Father's Day CD rock songs with guitars, drums & basses in the background as we were imitating the (rather limited) instruments; after watching this heaps of times, I know that the 12th fret on guitars is very important as it has 2 dots, the story behind Smoke on the Water, famous guitar riffs/chords, learned a lot about the legends such as Judas Priest, Van Halen, ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Dave Clark Five etc; thanks to Samanie, I still wouldn't know much today. My funniest bit was when they visited LA Guitar Center where they didn't know who Jimi Hendrix/Eric Clapton were! It still makes me laugh today and many years to follow.

Gene Simmons School of Rock
baltimoresquatblue27 August 2005
Warning: Spoilers
On this television show the front man for Kiss, Gene Simmons takes 10 British boys and girls at Christ's Hospital Boarding school and turns them into hard rockers. All the children know everything about classical music and nothing about rock and roll. At first the class is unsure about how they should react when Mr. Simmons comes in. Then Gene picks a front man for the children's band the best way he knows how by stirring up controversy in the classroom. Gene doesn't pick the best singer in the classroom, he picks the worst. A dorky boy named Josh Bell aka Emperor who has no friends and can speak elvish. Then he picks Dudley aka Dudders to play the drums.
