Warning: Spoilers
**SPOILERS** Pretty good episode in which a very dangerous burglary crew is taking scores of jewelry, (probably money), furs, and anything expensive and easy to fence. Spencer acts as insurance investigator working with police to catch and stop them. He's romanced and caught by the chief bad guy's girlfriend, and set up to be killed.

The guy who supposedly clips him is using wax bullets, and Jeff lives. The shooter is an undercover cop who is killed himself by the wary crooks shortly after. Roscoe figures out that the leader of the crew, who was supposed to be killed in a gunfire/flaming car wreck; is still alive, and Gil and the boys figure out how to get him and bust the crew. Karen Sharpe plays Nancy, who has Jeff completely conned. she's definitely beautiful, twisted and murderous. You've gotta see this episode for yourself, it ain't too bad.

BEWARE OF THE WAX BULLETS!

Jeff caught up in a violent tale, versus crafty mob boss Marco (well played by Malachi Throne) who supposedly is killed in a shootout, but still running a lethal gang of thieves. These guys play for keeps. I agree with the last reviewer, Jeff took a real deal chance with these homicidal maniacs, but still fun to watch.

Extremely well directed by Paul Landres who got a memorable performance from Karen Sharpe (as Nancy), connected to Marco, likewise taking Jeff on a wild ride. Look for two veteran actors; John Abbott as an eccentric inventor (he develops a cigarette lighter that can give stock market updates!) and western pioneer William Fawcett, playing Whiskers.

Superior ending finds Jeff and Marco bumping heads with his goons at his penthouse. Jeff makes one mistake -- ALWAYS look behind you! And you knew it was coming.

Malachi Throne (that deep voice) makes a master villain, later best known as "the boss" on IT TAKES A THIEF. Applause also for Karen Sharp, the widow of producer and director Stanley Kramer, who was still making tv and film appearances as late as 2021.

Best of SEASON 5 (1963) remastered. Thanks much to METV for running these excellent episodes on Sunday nights.

Pur in another guy

For the life of me I could not understand why when Roger Smith was in the police shootout with the heist gang and people on both sides were killed they did not use someone else, anyone else for the future undercover work. It made the whole episode rather dumb, especially with the narrow escape Jeff Spencer has when he goes undercover with a gang that knows him.

I'd hate to think Roger Smith was thinking with his male member, but when Karen Sharpe daughter of deceased boss Malachi Throne shows up at the gravesite I guess he couldn't resist.

All I'll say more is that all is not hardly what it seems.

Two big shoutouts to William Fawcett who has a brief moment as a skid row bum who is a source of Louis Quinn for tips of all kinds and to John Abbott an eccentric scientist also to be found on skid row because of his thirst problem.
