Keir Dullea in his salad days took out a patent on playing sensitive youths of all kind. When he did this Checkmate episode in 1962 he had several TV and stage roles and only one feature film, The Hoodlum Priest under his belt. You would see a lot more of Keir Dullea like this over the sixties on the big and small screen.
There are sensitive and there are sensitive. Dullea is a kid who has lost his mom as a youth and as the story begins Sebastian Cabot brings him the news that his father is now been arrested. Dullea does not handle bad news well and he lashes out.
An art teacher played by Dina Merrill at a local settlement house takes an interest in him, but of course he mistakes that as well. Keeping an eye on things is Doug McClure undercover at the settlement house as a gym instructor.
Another decade or two and this story would have taken another direction. But I didn't feel it for Dullea. To me he came off as narcissistic and needed a couple of whacks upside the head.
