The Steve-Laura Connection
gregorycanfield28 February 2024
Let me explain the title of my review. Despite the episode's focus on Steve and Carl appearing on American Gladiators, the only thing that resonated with me was Steve and Laura. There are at least three places in the episode, where Laura seems to let her defenses down. Two, in particular, stand out. When Carl forbids Steve to come back to the Winslow house, Steve responds: "I love this lady, and I'll come back whenever I want." Laura doesn't have a response to this. She seems to "internalize" what Steve said. At one point, during the American Gladiators segment, Laura goes to Steve, and tells him that she doesn't want to see him get hurt. Steve responds: "You do love me!" Laura doesn't have a response to this, either. She just lets it ride. I love it! The American Gladiators stuff was OK, if you're into that kind of stuff. Without the focus even being on Steve and Laura, it was Steve and Laura that shined through.

Surely You Joust (#4.1)

Warning: Spoilers
Oh yes, I remember American Gladiators! What a great show, I used to love it as a kid.

And this episode is just awesome, because we see Carl and Urkel resolving their disagreement by going on American Gladiators. This was pure entertainment! All the fights and races are "believable", as in we can really see Carl being stronger while Steve being faster, and they are also full of action

Waldo, whose cousin made it all possible, was very funny when checking the phone, and the Winslows and Urkel hanging from the roof before was classic.

Clashing Gladiators

This is my fifth favorite episode of the show, as well as one of my favorite crossover episodes as it's a combo of one of my favorite sitcoms along with my favorite game show of all time "American Gladiators", to me it was a dream come true and a beautiful combination.

This episode was both funny and exciting, really like the contestant names both Carl and Steve had which were cool as both sort of fit them. The only disappoint in the show is both didn't get to do to Assault which is my favorite game, but due to time constraints it couldn't be helped.

It was just cool and funny seeing both just competing against one another, it really felt like it could go either way both as we see had their strengths and weakness, for Carl he had strength and Steve speed; personally I was betting on Steve to win as he's my favorite character. We see them do Joust another one of my favorite game in the show, it was cool seeing Carl kick ass in that one. The Wall and of course it come down to the Eliminator another favorite game of mine. It was just fun seeing both just racing against one another but also at the same time both we see are running out of gas also in fright on certain obstacles they face.

Who will win, you'll just have to tune in and find out.
