Martin's obsession is a murder that occurred 20 years in the past. A prostitute was murdered and Martin had promised the family that he would solve it. This is what he does with his spare time, perusing crime photos ad trying to figure things out. Niles and Frasier take him to a basketball game to get his mind off the crime. What follows upon their return to the apartment is extremely funny.

Frasier and the monkey
studioAT9 July 2017
The strength of this episode is the fact that the plot enables all of the main characters (except Roz, who as ever is underused) to interact with each other. It's also nice to see the high and mighty Frasier be made to look foolish at the end.
It's a good episode, full of strong lines, and some nice interplay especially between Frasier and Martin.
It's been an up and down second series of the show in my opinion, but this is a notable up.
