Miss Moneypenny kisses Commander Gideon in gratitude
howardmorley18 October 2016
Lois Maxwell (Miss Moneypenny) held my attention in this 1966 episode of "Gideons Way" which starred John Gregson in this long running TV series.Baddie Donald Sutherland is in a plot with an American conman to kidnap an American millionaire's daughter for a ransom of $1,000,000.There are some quaint production points.First to see bobbies walking on the beat which you do not see these days but did then in the 1960s.Second an art shop would have taken out references on their employees.I am gradually re-acquainting myself with Gideons way working through all the uploaded episodes on Youtube.com.I love to see again the cars, fashion and dolly birds at the time England won the Fifa World cup!I gave this episode 6/10.

The Millionaire's Daughter
Prismark108 February 2022
Alan Blake is a charmer who is romancing the daughter of a rich American couple who are visiting Britain.

Nina Henderson thinks that Blake might well be Mr Right and her parents approve.

Little knowing that Blake and his gang plan to kidnap Nina and demand a ransom of $1 million.

Gideon is aware of Blake and suspects that he is up to something.

After Nina is kidnapped, he knows Blake and is cohorts are holding her somewhere. One of the gang, Philip is a liability who plans to harm Nina.

Gideon tells the father about his suspicions regarding Blake but not the mother. This could be a big mistake as she takes matters in her own hands.

Good entertaining stuff. Double crosses, disguises and Donald Sutherland.

More than just a kidnapping.

A beautiful young heiress Nina Henderson, meets and falls for going American in London, Alan Blake, who's working with a small network of criminals.

One of the show's best episodes no question, it may not be the most unique or original storyline, but it's the way that it's delivered, the richness of the characters, and the real sense of malice that came through from the villains.

Alan is an out and out creep, you'd have thought that wealthy parents, clearly they've gotten their wealth not by being sweet and naive, would have seen through his antics.

There are two real superstars in this episode, but add a real level of quality, it boasts Lois Maxwell, Miss Moneypenny herself and the legendary Donald Sutherland.

Despite the presence of two legends, I'd argue the performances of Don Borisenko and Georgina Ward that really stood out.

9/10.
