Hitchcoc28 July 2021
A young black cop, back at the precinct kills a man who pulls a gun. His partner, a fat, over the hill guy just transferred, drops a weapon when the original can't be found right away. Belker's wedding is disrupted when he gets stuck undercover with meth dealers. Then there's the case of a heart stolen from an overturned ambulance. Bobby Hill becomes a hero. Fabian's druggie mother has left him behind. Lucy mourns.

Sometimes the job gets in the way

Warning: Spoilers
Belker (a fine Bruce Weitz) misses his wedding with Robin (sweet Lisa Sutton) because he gets tied up in his undercover case. Veteran cop Jack Steger (an excellent portrayal by Sandy Ward) plants a gun on a dead suspect. A mugger steals a heart meant for a transplant. LaRue (sturdy Kiel Martin) tries to stay honest while shopping for the department's wedding gift for Belker.

It's nice to see everyone at the station pull together for Belker, with the usually sleazy LaRue for once proving to be a stand-up guy who even haggles with shyster salesman Nelson (an amusing turn by Louis Giambalvo) over a refrigerator. Moreover, Mykelti Williamson as eager and morally upright rookie cop Garfield makes a welcome return appearance; one feels sorry for the guy since once more he's forced to drop a dime on a fellow cop. Bates (a terrific Betty Thomas) has a strong scene in which she confronts Fabian's pathetic junkie mom Vivian (well played by Beverly Hope Atkinson). The business with the stolen heart provides some solid race against time tension while the situation with Belker's undercover gig going red early perfectly illustrates how police work can occasionally get in the way of one's personal life.
