"When Love Is Gone"
JordanThomasHall20 April 2020
Patty is livid at Richard for planning to take Sue Ellen Turner out. Patty wins him back over with a touching love poem, "When Love Is Gone". While watching TV, Patty and Cathy learn about the Jimmy Dean Songwriting Contest, in which the winner will receive $100, have Jimmy Dean (himself) perform it, and have the song published. Cathy sings the poem while playing piano, prompting Richard and a reluctant Patty to enter the song in the contest. Patty reveals to Cathy that she copied the poem from a book, but can't reach Richard in time from mailing it. Patty and Cathy go to Bird Music Recording to try and take their song back. However, out of 50,000 entries, "When Love Is Gone" is one of the final three selected and publisher Sam Cramer (Phil Foster, "Laverne and Shirley") refuses. Patty and Cathy talk themselves into thinking they are "patrons of the arts" doing the poet Charles Remington (Paul McGrath) a favor. As the contest announcement looms, the girls fear the repercussions.
