🏆 THE ORIGINAL ROSEANNE SHOW 🎅HOLIDAY CLASSIC EPISODE
floridacalisurferboy3 January 2022
🎅 THIS... was one of the many times the Original CLASSIC ROSEANNE SHOW was written Brilliantly... The perfect combination of Comedy & Drama with some truly clever bits and funny situations... SANTA CLAUS 🎅 played by Roseanne herself was hilarious.. As was Laurie Metcalf as Mrs. Claus the North Pole version of a marine corp sergeant 😀 Everyone in the cast is stellar, while the kids on Santa's lap act like adults, the grown ups like Darlene and Roseanne inside bookstore act like the immature children 😂 JUST A GREAT HOLIDAY CLASSIC EPISODE 🎄

Santa Claus (#4.12)

Warning: Spoilers
Darlene has a new friend Karen. Roseanne works as a Santa at the mall and meets Karen, who ends up being her age. She comes to see her and finds out a lot of things about Darlene that she didn't know. She confronts Darlene and at the end Darlene lets her read a short story that she wrote.

A great episode. For once we do get to laugh a lot. Mainly with Roseanne and Jackie at the mall. Jackie was hilarious yelling at those kids. And all the things Roseanne said as Santa were also hilarious.

Another funny thing was the joke Becky made to Dan! It was a good addition how she was thinking to tell it to Roseanne too but decided not to cause Roseanne was so mad.

And the story between Roseanne and Darlene was also great. Made me feel so bad for her! Sure Darlene is made as a real teenager but Roseanne is such a cool mom. I was happy for her that she got to read Darlene's story. It sure meant to her a lot since she is a mom and also somebody who loved writing.

Classic TV Xmas Countdown Episode #51
kgraovac20 December 2023
Roseanne takes a job as a mall Santa where she discovers that Darlene has a new friend who's the same age as Roseanne.

An okay episode, it's not really that funny and up to standard for this era of ROSEANNE. There is a montage of Roseanne/Santa and various kids on her lap that we also saw on MAMA'S FAMILY's 1986 Xmas episode. Jackie's military precision-like drill for the kids waiting to see Santa is great. "Nobody gets bit on my beat", she declares, referring to the previous Santa who lost a finger to a bratty kid.

There is some nice character development for Darlene in this one, as we learn about her creative writing. Roseanne even mentions Darlene's touching poem that was heard in the great Season 2 episode "Brain Dead Poet's Society". Becky fakes Dan out by showing off an engagement ring from Mark - something she got out of a gumball machine. In hindsight, this kind of foreshadows Becky's elopement in the Season 5 opener.

The Roseanne-as-Santa parts are a little too routine, but the Darlene storyline is good. 6/10.
