My absolute favorite episode.
nunemkh30 October 2008
BAND GEEKS:

There are so many reasons to love this episode. It has stupidity by Patrick, the irreverence of Spongebob, Squidward's bitterness. This is also the introduction to the character Squillium, Squidward's arch enemy. I have never laughed this hard while watching Spongebob and trust me I laugh every time. This is my favorite episode of my favorite show!

SECRET BOX:

I really think the writers did an amazing job with this double-episode because band geeks and secret box are freaking hilarious. This episode holds what are possibly the funniest Patrick moments and quotes. Me and my fellow Spongebob fanatics/lovers/cult maniacs still quote these two episodes..as well as others of course.

bottom line I really think the 2nd season was a tour de force for Spongebob and everything that followed(up until 2006) was nothing short of genius!

One of the best episodes of TV ever.
loua949 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I'll just get this out of the way first: The Secret Box is a fantastic episode that is very quotable, very funny, and just really clever all around.

But let's get to the important stuff: Band Geeks. Band Geeks might be one of the best episodes of TV of all time. It does nothing wrong, and everything right.

Hilarious? Check.

Genuinely clever comedy that appeals both to people who know the characters and to people who have barely watched the show? Check.

Good plot holding it together? Check.

Great pacing? Check.

A truly meaningful, happy and well deserved ending for Squidward, the character who's always dumped on? Check.

An awesome song? Check.

Epic scene to accompany both the awesome song and happy ending? Check.

Super relatable to anyone who's ever played or sung in an ensemble? Check. (I know that this episode has been quoted so damn often in my college a cappella group during our rehearsals for the four years I've been in it).

Endlessly quotable? Without a doubt. Almost every single line in this episode is quotable. There's a reason that some people can collectively recall the entire script of the episode without having to re-watch it.

It's just so good. Watch it, love it, quote it, bring it to band practice.

Secret Box: Patrick doesn't want to share his secret. Band Geeks: Spongebob and friends perform in the Bubble Bowl.
dmaynoldi2627 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
These are one of the best Spongebob episodes that I have ever seen in my entire natural-born life. Secret Box kicked off an original plot when Patrick wants to keep his secret to himself, and has a wonderful Patrick quote, "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma". The secret Spongebob sees is a piece of string, but the real secret in disguise is an embarrassing snapshot of Spongebob at the Christmas Party. Very amazing episode, but this is only the beginning. Band Geeks is an amazing classic from Aaron Springer. In the end, Spongebob sings Sweet Victory like a pop-star with a hand-selected group of fish folk. Another classic Patrick quote, "Is mayonnaise an instrument?" and a classic Patrick moment when he experiences pain with a trumpet. Also, the fish with a British accent is very funny too when he tells Mr. Krabs, "Well maybe we wouldn't sound so bad if some people didn't play with big, meaty claws. Very funny. This episode is literally flawless.

Both great episodes and Band Geeks is my favorite
mwcrunner3 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
These are both great episodes and are just right before the writers of SpongeBob stopped trying after the first SpongeBob movie came out. Now we all wonder what the embarrassing snapshot of SpongeBob at a Christmas party was at the end of the episode right after Patrick pulls it out of the secret compartment of his box. My guess is it was SpongeBob in his underwear with a Christmas sweater on and he's all covered in fruit cake and egg nog. lol. Patrick was a little bit insane in this episode by the way. Now Band Geeks is my favorite episode of the show cause SpongeBob helps Squidward get the chance to be a star and that is by having almost everyone in Bikini Bottom form a great band that would make a great performance in front of a live action audience at the Bubble Bowl and that Squidward gets to rub it in Squilliams face. Also the song Sweet Victory at the end is an awesome and rocking song.

Spongebob tries to find out Patrick's secret. Squidward tries putting together a band.
sawaug15 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Although the first half of this episode is good, the whole story is actually pretty funny and the gags are great, the real greatness shines in the second half with Band Geeks. This time instead of Squidward being an arrogant, pompous jerk, he is actually a character that people can relate to. He is just trying to prove to one of his more successful rivals that he can do just as well as he can. He puts together everyone in town including everyone in the main cast, even Plankton. They all fight and everything seems to turn out disastrously. Everyone realizes that Squidward needs them, so they all pitch in to perform the greatest halftime show in history. Squidward finally gets his great win, and in turn so does the audience. Deep down, we all know what Squidward has to put up with, so we all just want him to have these moments of triumph every once in a while. Even the biggest jerks in our lives deserve them too.

Not the best Spongebob episodes, but still awesome!

Band Geeks is a masterpiece, but I don't quite think it's the best episode of the series. There are a few episodes I like more, but I still love Band Geeks. The Secret Box was pretty good too, but not awesome compare to Band Geeks

Best SpongeBob SquarePants Episode Ever!
felixarvidwhaals11 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
These two episodes are considered the best in the entire history of SpongeBob SquarePants. And there's many reasons why they are considered the best:

The Secret Box: In this episode, SpongeBob tries to find out what is in the box that Patrick has , which tests their friendship. In the episode, Patrick states "the inner machinations of my mind are an enigma" - a quote that will be forever stuck in my head.

Band Geeks: Amazing music, hilarious quotes, many lovable characters... This episode is by many people considered "the best SpongeBob SquarePants episode ever" and I think so too. In the episode, Squidward forms a band after he runs into his old enemy Squilliam. I love this episode, even after 15 years I still watch it.

I think these two are without any doubt the best SpongeBob episodes out there. 10/10

These are absolutly amazing spongebob episodes.
travelertoon24 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is my first time reviewing in IMDB. I would like to talk about these great and funny episodes from Spongebob individually.

Secret Box: This is a really funny episode. Its about Spongebob finding his best friend, Patrick looking at something inside a box. This episode shows us moments from Patrick that are a great fun to watch. Its also funny how when Spongebob is trying to sneak into Patrick's house to get his box, he makes loud noises but Patrick is still sleeping tightly. What Patrick is hiding inside that box is an embarrasing picture of Spongebob in a Christmas party, although we didn't see it. All in all this is a great watch.

Band Geeks: This is one of the best episodes from Spongebob Squarepants ever. This episode is about Squidward trying to form his band against his rival, Squillium who is like a love to hate type of character. This episode is also very amusing. It includes great quotes like, "is mayonaise an instrument," and amusing actions like when two fish spin their flags so hard that they flyed into a blimp which then explodes, and then dramatic music comes in. The ending is also very satisfying, with the epic song, Sweet Victory, and Squidward actually winning in this episode. All in all there's a reason why this episode is considered one of the best episodes from spongebob.

Thanks for reading this review about these legendary and amazing Spongebob Squarepants episodes. Goodbye.

What reason is there to not love this episode? It has memorable quotes, Hilarious comedy and an epic finale. The heart that goes in to the final 5 minutes of this episode, Is easily the best writing that Nickelodeon has ever done. I still to this day can't believe how good this episode is. It continuously blows my mind

A legendary episode. One for the ages.
chrisminutolo20 August 2019
The Secret Box: Funny... I guess. SB is funny enough to carry out the episode. Patrick is his naive self, oblivious to the maniacal chaos he's putting into Spongebob's head. It's ok.

Band Geeks: Quite possibly the best episode if any show I have ever seen. Every joke is pure gold. A battlefield of comedy, with every punchline a bomb... from which you die of laughter. An episode for all ages. Anyone at any age should watch this masterpiece AT LEAST once.

TL;DR - Secret Box is aight. Band Geeks is a must-watch.

This should have been season 4 finale, then the whole show ends (first movie stays though) this is the best episode of the series along with pizza delivery and more. Secret box was funny, I don't have much of an opinion on it. I'm mostly reviewing for band geeks.

This episode is important...
dylanmortiz7 October 2021
Every few years there comes a generation defining episode in a children's cartoon. For those who were born in the late 90's, Band Geeks is that episode. This episode belongs in a museum or should be retired in the cartoon hall of fame should one exist. There is nothing more to say.

Golden!!
coycaitlin7 August 2021
All I can say is with 'band geeks' for the writers responsible for this episode deserves a gold trophy and a metal it's funny wonderfully paced wrote well and the ending was just dynamite please go watch this episode you won't be disappointed!!! 'The secret box' is alright personally it's kinda funny I don't love it but I also don't despise it it's just kind of meh I won't spoil it too much I'm just gonna say that it's pretty much as the description says spongebob realized Patrick has a secret box that he's even keeping from him as of course spongebob's curiosity gets the better of him and you can imagine the rest, it doesn't bother me so much but it just feels like one of those episodes where Patrick is not such a good friend to spongebob partly because in my opinion nobody should feel like they need to keep a secret from their friends especially their best friends aside from that the writing is alright and at least Patrick don't behave as badly as he did in 'I'm with stupid'

One of the best and a good episode
sleshfox6 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The Secret Box was good especially the secound half in which Spongebob breaks in and the reveal what really is in the box. The first half wasn't that special but still good and the joke with the falling milk and all the secrets of Spongebob where funny.

Band Geeks has so many good jokes and a nice ending. The mayonnaise joke is iconic and squidward has a happy ending. I also like all the characters in this episode. And Sweet Victory was a perfect final song.

Band Geeks
mipfel24 June 2022
So I think it's common thinking to consider Band Geeks one of, if not the best SpongeBob Episode, for a good reason. It's just so satisfying to see Squidward actually winning for once, besides the episode being filled with hilarious, memorable and quotable moments.

Unfortunately it suffers from being paired with another episode, The Secret Box, which is simply not as good and I personally don't really like how Patrick acts in this episode.

Overall I'd give this a 9 still, since Band Geeks is just that good!

The 10 is for Band Geeks, but tSB is an underrated gem
spicedoggydog8 April 2021
Band Geeks is the best episode of a comedy in the past 20 years. Its funny, heartfelt, and epic all in 11 minutes.

TSB is good too, not bad enough to warrant the flawless masterpiece of Band Geeks getting lowered from a 10. Long live squidward.
