Fox is developing a one-hour drama titled “Borrowed Time,” Variety has learned exclusively.
The series hails from writers and executive producers David Slack, Josh Campbell, and Matt Stuecken. McG is also an executive producer along with Mary Viola and Corey Marsh via Wonderland Sound and Vision. Wonderland is currently under a non-exclusive broadcast direct development deal with Fox.
The official logline for “Borrowed Time” states: “Neuroscientist Mimi Peters is working to extract memories from the human brain. Her technology is too dangerous to test on the living. But after she proves she can peer into the minds of the dead, FBI Agent Casey Harden comes calling. Together, they form an uneasy partnership using her technology to solve his cases.”
The project marks a return to Fox for Slack, who previously co-created the Fox procedural “Apb.” Slack’s other credits include “Law & Order,” “Magnum P.I.,” and “Person of Interest.” Campbell and...

January Jones took aim at virtual auditions on Saturday, writing on her Instagram story, “Note to Hollywood: It’s time for casting directors to come back into the office like everyone else. To audition actors in person.”
The “Mad Men” star continued, “And if anyone asks for a Fee to audition please know that this is criminal and Pathetic. I personally have had to self tape several times since the pandemic began and there is zero benefit to it for anyone involved. It’s time consuming, expensive, and a drag to whomever you have to drag in to read with you (sorry Mom), and is often done with zero direction/notes.”
Since the pandemic, self-tapes have remained a common way for actors to audition for roles, rather than auditioning live in front of casting directors.

“His influence will never wane; there simply isn’t anyone who’s any good who isn’t standing on his shoulders.”
That’s what Steven Soderbergh wrote about Gordon Willis, the cinematographer who changed the American cinema forever with his work on Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather.” Though other filmmakers had used some of the same techniques as Willis — John Ford and Gregg Toland made extensive use of practically motivated light sources on “The Long Voyage Home,” and many noir films experimented with placing their characters in darkness — the revolution didn’t really take hold until he applied the approach to what became one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful movies of all time.
“The Godfather” celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and Willis’ work continues to inform the ways in which cinematographers approach their work; look no further than Greig Fraser’s character and psychology-driven lighting on “The Batman” for proof.

Created by McCraney and executive produced by Oprah Winfrey, the first season of David Makes Man centered on David Young (Akili McDowell), a 14-year-old prodigy learning to survive the streets that raised him and the higher education that could offer him a way out. HBO Max has a major job on its hands to justify its approximately $15 a month subscription fee, especially given the strong competition out there from established names like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Disney Plus faced a similar challenge last year in arriving onto an already-saturated streaming marketplace, but at least had the advantage of major series like The Mandalorian to promote. While HBO Max will eventually be home to the Snyder cut of Justice League, and has some originals for its first week of availability, the big draw right now is its enormous back-catalogue of movies.
Given the various corporate elements that are going into HBO Max, including the Warner Bros. library, owners AT&T will be hoping that the combination of brand recognition for HBO programming, and a deep bench of movies, will convince people to add a new subscription to their list. To this end, HBO Max have added 122 films today,...

Welcome to the HBO Max era! WarnerMedia’s streaming giant arrived on May 27 and is absolutely bursting with Warner movies, TV shows, and other titles. But time waits for no man or streaming service and each new month HBO Max will be expected to bring new content to the table. Things get started in June 2020 with the first batch of HBO Max new releases.
To be clear, the majority of the original series coming to HBO Max actually belongs to HBO. Shows like I May Destroy You (June 7), Perry Mason (June 21), and I’ll Be Gone in the Dark (June 28) all belong to HBO…which now just happens to be a part of HBO Max. Confusing stuff, we know, but rest assured that if you have HBO Max you’ll get these shows…and if you only have HBO, you can go ahead and just get HBO Max for the same price anyway.

In a new report from Production Weekly (via Cb), we have learned that Netflix has placed the order for a sequel to their 2017 horror comedy The Babysitter. Director McG is coming back to helm the sequel, but a new writer, Dan Lagana, is said to be coming aboard, replacing the previous writer, Brian Duffield.
The first film was left open with the possibility of a sequel, as the babysitter, Bee (Samara Weaving), who is actually an immortal witch, was hit by a car driven by the kid in her charge, Cole (Judah Lewis), but when the cops showed up, Bee was nowhere to be found. So she shall live to babysit again, I guess.
I don’t remember this movie coming out, but it must have made a big enough impression to get a second one made. Did you enjoy the first film? Are you excited for a second one?...

For the latest spotlight piece, I wanted to return to a former subject take another look at one of the most unusual A-listers that Hollywood has to offer. It’s none other than Matthew McConaughey, a unique star in the business. Up until recently known as a talented but easygoing movie star, he’s since undergone a career transformation that’s not just made him one of the most sought after actors around, but one of the most acclaimed as well. He’s entered the second phase of his career and could reach the stratosphere before long. McConaughey already has an Academy Award under his belt, and it’s not folly to think that Oscar could cite him again real soon. McConaughey got his start by stealing his scenes in Dazed and Confused. In fact, that first theatrical role gave him some instantly quotable dialogue and really established him as...

Netflix has teamed with director McG for alien invasion sci-fi adventure film Rim of the World.
McG, otherwise known as Joseph McGinty Nichol, has been keeping himself busy, both as a director of action flicks and as a television producer for, up until recently, shows like Supernatural, Fox's beleaguered, currently on-the-bubble Lethal Weapon, and Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, and is currently developing a TV series adaptation of the 1994 Arnold Schwarzenegger spy actioner, True Lies. However, the fruits of his film directing resume keep heading to streaming giant Netflix, and one such project, called Rim of the World, will be no exception.

The Super Bowl closes out an exciting season of NFL football this Sunday with a strong match-up between the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots. So for fans to bide their time in the many months before another kick-off, it’s time to turn your attentions to the greatest football films of all time. There are all kinds of football-based films out there to enjoy — from dramas to comedies, and even an award-winning documentary — and we’ve collected the top 12 here in our photo gallery, ranked from worst to best.
In paring down the list, we had to answer the question: “Just what is a football movie?” We didn’t include “The Blind Side,” for example, because though its central character plays football, the film is primarily about many other things. And while Act 3 of Robert Altman‘s “M*A*S*H” is made up of what is arguably the...

"How is the team looking?" Ld Entertainment has debuted a trailer for a true story film titled The Miracle Season, about a high school girls' volleyball team that had to overcome a tragic loss of one of their players. The cast of the film is lead by Helen Hunt, William Hurt, Danika Yarosh, Erin Moriarty, as well as Tiera Skovbye and Nesta Cooper. The Miracle Season is based on the inspiring true story of West High School girls' volleyball team. In 2011, their star player Caroline Found tragically died in a moped accident, but the team (and the entire town) came together and overcame the odds. The story was already profiled on HBO's "Real Sports" series, but this is the feature film version. The title reminds me of The Winning Season, but this is probably closer to We Are Marshall than anything else. Another inspiring sports story to enjoy. Here's the...

Ah, the Halloween season. The weather’s cooling down, the sun’s setting earlier, the leaves are browning and pumpkins are being carved for decoration and pies. It also means you’re sure to find a couple of new scary movies trying to make their genre marks while holding their own against the classics. And while Hollywood is currently focused on the horror of lascivious producers, Netflix and director McG are focused on getting their fantastical little yarn called The Babysitter out to thrill and make you laugh. The success rate of that, unfortunately, isn’t what it should be.

FX's You're the Worst is currently one of the hottest sitcoms on TV (not to mention one of my personal favorites!). I got a chance to chat with the show's composer Adam Blau about his music writing process, some of his other projects and more. What can you tell us about your percussion expertise? How have you used that tool when scoring or arranging for films? I’ve had the chance to work on several films as a percussion arranger in a variety of styles. On scores like Mark Isham’s for The Express or Chris Beck’s for We Are Marshall, the composers wanted to use a drumline style incorporated throughout the score to evoke a collegiate/sports/marching band feel. I was brought in for those films as well as...

Twenty six weeks into 2016 and Disney's year continues to impress as the studio has the #1 film at the weekend box office for the twelfth time. Finding Dory topped the weekend chart with one of the ten best second weekends of all-time as the animated feature has now grossed over $286 million domestically and nearly $400 million worldwide. As for the weekend's new wide releases, the results weren't quite as pretty as three out of the four struggled in a competitive marketplace. Independence Day: Resurgence was unable to match the opening weekend of its 20-year-old predecessor, Free State of Jones didn't capture the attention of its target audience and The Neon Demon wasn't able to come close to expectations. The only bright spot among the weekend's new wide releases was the "terror in the water" thriller The Shallows, which scored well with audiences and critics, all on a meager budget. Taking the number...

Hollywood knows that one genre is almost certain to get the audience’s blood pumping and pulse racing: the sports story. Creed certainly proved that a few months ago (you’d think audiences were watching a real live boxing match, judging from the all the cheering at the multiplex). Couple that on-screen excitement with a dramatic true story, and you’ve hopefully got a critical and box office hit. And while professional sports may be tainted and tarnished thanks to bad behavior and big bucks, the amateur athletes still have a purity and nobility about them. There have been plenty of college (We Are Marshall), high school (Hoosiers), and even grade school (The Bad News Bears) team tales, but for individual triumphs, the four-year spectacle, the Olympics, abound in stories of glory and drama. Well 2016 just so happens to be an olympic year, so the studios are launching the first...

Needless to say, Masters of the Universe isn't exactly high art. The long-defunct Mattel franchise -- which began as a toy line first before being spun off into a popular Saturday morning cartoon series in the 1980s -- was a silly diversion for the under-10 set that was perfectly suited to being served up with heavy doses of sugary breakfast cereal. And yet so was Transformers, which didn't keep it from being turned into a multi-billion-dollar live-action film franchise that cut across demographic barriers. Still, it hasn't been quite so easy for He-Man -- Masters' blond-locked, impossibly-muscled central hero -- on the big screen. The first effort at a live-action film, 1987's Masters of the Universe, was beset by numerous production problems, a lead actor who could barely deliver dialogue, and ridiculous contractual stipulations from Mattel that inadvertently led to charges of Star Wars copycatism. While it certainly had its charms,...
